Well somedays it doesn't really matter what a person does or tries to do things just go in a direction not intended to go as planned.
Trying to find an easy for transplanting the blueberries. So I figured on using the large tractor and drilling holes-120 of them, good plan in the head.
Shear pin fixed-got 18 holes drilled on Sunday-all fired up in the head of getting it done-high hopes-then that old familiar smell of hot antifreeze.
Pulled up the auger/stopped everything and there it was a dripping bad. So I drove the tractor to the end of the row, took the shovel and cleaned up the spot that it leaked on the ground.
I adjusted my drip pan set up for dripping fluids (power steering pump) and drove it back to the shop.
Where is it leaking fromcan't see, black as ol' heck under the hood, crawled under, dripping all over the face, which got the glasses/eye, up the nostril, oh yummy!
Now I'm loosing the sense of haha just about now.
So off went the hood, the the front cowling, then the rad, then the water pump, then the power steering pump.OK STOP!!!! I'm in a ripping mood......Time for some new.....
So Monday I phone the tractor supply for parts-Rad hoses-3-5 weeks-water pump seal-3days-no power steering pump/rocker arm gasket/fan belt-. Say What!
Yesterday I go to start the ATV-clunk, hit the starter clunk, try to pull cord, doesn't move....Throw it neutral roll it down into yard-then tried to start it-nope....
I wonder....I smelled fuel...took the dipstick out....engine oil smelled like gas.....motor seized....not my first rodeo with this.....
Stuck needle valve in carb...filled air air breather/engine with gas....off to repair shop....
So I call the tractor supply company back-talk to the main guy....oh ya we can get these hoses by Thursday-have the power steering pump on the shelf-water pump on order-as the hoses.
Well it looks like Thursday for everything in the order....WTF!
Glad that there are a few brains still in the world that know how to keep it running-because when they retire it will be one sad day for many that rely on them.
So no ATV for watering, no tractor for drilling, had excavator moving rock regrading the slope of gravel, placing large rocks, trying to rebuild slope access to dock. Almost lost new excavator off the slope ($90K) Operator/owner getting nervous.
OK lets wait till tractor is back in play so I can ferry large rocks down to slope edge so he can thumb over the cliff edge to build up the slope.
It takes the crawler 15 minutes to get one rock,,,$$$.....Time sucker.....
Oh the joys of making things happen, just bought 3 PT 2x12x16' $80 each-welcome to the new world of price gouging........
One of those reverse Midas touch days?
Oh yes.
Tired old horses.
I need to order another spare 6 volt internal coil for the tractor with a magneto. The last one got spent out in the field on a hot summers day. A learning experience that was...
By the time I brush hog /mow again the engine will have it's tongue hangin out from the load , as stuff is growing fast.
Have read of folks putting a cold wet rag on top of the coils housing to try to keep it cool. But being electrical , I have not tried it. Something about electricity and water...
I'll be seeing anti freeze from the thermosiphon system before it stalls from heat though.
Keep at it. Just a temporary delay.
Browse new tractor prices (nevermind availability) and your old iron horses will start lookin better. ....
