We call it "Island hoping"...

We have over 4,510 islands that are over ten acres or larger alone. heh

As far as "little" islands like the one you have pictured... I don't think anyone has had the time money or effort to count them all.

Island come and go...

They appear and disappear over the years... some faster... some slower... some over 100's of years... some after storms etc etc.

And some little ones... no change... other than subtle.

South of Ft meyers area... is a region of Islands called 10,000 Islands...

No explanation as to why they named it that is needed I am sure.

This is ONE reason Florida was a favored hotbed for pirates until the late 1800;s... and afterwards a favored place for smugglers... even today.

018.webp Looking East from route 1 you can see the island (per google Sat.its 1,000 ft. out)

lol... I will get right on that... :P

Get a scuba mask on, and see if you can swim it up! Tying a rope around the waist will help bring it up, so you can use your arms. :laughing7:

Roger you got what looks like a tree and root ball. I'd wager that it's a palm. Those islands are called spoil islands and were made when the intracoastal waterway was dredged. Many native American artifacts can be found on them along with great fossils including sharks teeth. There are several spots on the riverside that finds have been made and more than a few stories regarding the riverside and 1715 fleet. Supposed to be a chest in the swamp in south vero/north ft. Pierce. That story goes back to the 50s-60s. Also finds have been made by some of my friends on mainland sebastian area. Melbourne beach and aquarina beach are the real hotspots right now for beach and water hunters. And those are north of the inlet by a good stretch. That's where the Inca mask was found and many cobbs. Robert Marx and a Jewish friend were pulling coins there years before anyone and kept it a pretty good secret for a long time. There are many little secrets that still exsist.

Aquarina roger !!

The new energizer commercial features a metal detectorist on a beach with more gold on than Mr. T...

So much that when he bends over his back gives out from the weight of the necklaces around his neck. :/

If the concepcion is 18 miles north of inlet, then that should be about aquarina ?? I've herd that the friend of Marx found1000 + cobbs here.....there would have to be a survivors camp on that beach !!
