The Many Lost Treasures of Mariposa, CA (Photos Added)

GreetingS all,

I read several pages of this thead months ago. Bagby, Sherlock Creek, Briceburg, all fascinate me. I lurk here on T-net, mostly. I did NOT check this thread before leaving on Saturday to go to Briceburg. My first trip in years to the area, and playing around with a pan. I MISSED YOU ALL, AND I WAS THERE!. I was in a Green Grand Cherokee lifted, parked a couple hundred yards upstream from what I think was the Cable Rock area. I have now subscribed to this thead so I won't be missing out. I plan on heading back up in the morning for some more serious work with a sluice. Best wishes to all, and look forward to the next gathering!

Sharp Rock Jerry

Sharp Rock I was in a gold rav4 and eagle drives a ford explore blackish green with a bullet hole sticker on the side. Wish we could have met as well. Next time. I always drive by cable rock but it does look pretty good.

Hi Charles,

I'd like to say I know what looks pretty good, but in truth, I'm learning the ropes on panning and sluicing. My first love is metal detecting. But good to join the conversation here. I did meet an interesting chap who was digging down near Railroad Flat in the claimed area. He said he had permission. Who knows. I excused myself to find safer ground. I don't want to get any REAL bullet holes in the side of my Jeep. :laughing7: Yes, Next time for sure.

Thanks!

Jerry

The river took one of my pans when I turned my back. I almost found enough gold to cover the cost of a new one. It was good to meet you too, Charles. Oh, and I drive a stunning 1988 Toyota pick-up, yellowish/ light brown. I painted it with spray cans the same color as dust, so I never have to wash it.

Dang it rik you found some gold? Did you go with the plan you had when we were leaving. Your starting to get that river figured out thanks to eagle and hard work. Lol your truck screams prospector. I need a truck like yours . I get dirty eyes from the wife when I bring it home dirty. Lol.

Hey Charles how is the river level? I was going to go up but ended up having to work, did gold bag make it up?

You know, I think I remember seeing you guys! I almost stopped and asked if you were from treasure.net....lol, then wasn't sure I wanted 3 guys wondering what I was smokin` lol I was driving a '06 Chevy Silverado extended cab silver/grey. Next time I'll just ask. Let me know when the next meet up is and where, I'll do my best to be there.

family hunter, the river is actually flowing better than I thought it would. I ran a sluice for a bit, the water is extremely warm (or was to me) Dreamflows shows the flow at 77 cfm as of yesterday. I use the dreamflows website to check flows for fishing and prospecting, great tool

The river level is really low. It dropped about a foot from one weekend to the next. But if you get in the right spot you can sluice. Gold bag did not make it. It was just me and Eagle and then Rick showed up later in the day.

Charles you never did say if your wife liked those opals you got from Eagle last time I saw you? The lower the river the better from what I have found all the good stuff is on the other side anyways.

Those opals were sweet. Eagle has some for sale in the hornitis store and he had them graded and said they were high quality. My wife thought they were beautiful. I just need to get some settings for them.

The river low or high just kicks my butt regardless. Lol

Have you ever considered taking people out to go prospecting kinda like a tour guide?? If so I would love to go!!

Sorry i didnt get up, friday night got called out on a job for saturday morning from a AAA customer who i never turn down, she brings in a lot of work for me so she's a gold mine that i work :coins: I'm looking at next weekend i'll even pick you up eagle if your open, i'm really trying these days to leave weekends open but seems like i get one good healthy weekend a month to get out, its getting tough fighting fatigue, work, running a business, aches and pains of worn out smokers body UGH....
Let me know for sure if you can make it. I think I can get enough gas to make one more trip this month.

Sorry to hear about your and Oakview2 tribulations. I share both your anger over the management of our forests and resources in general. One thing for sure, if we managed our businesses or jobs the same way our government manages anything we would be fired. Unfortunately, generally speaking, it seems like our government has forgotten who their employer is. Not sure of a way to rectify the problem, maybe we are too far down the road? Any way, I hope everything is found to be ok.
Last Friday, I saw a Madera County fire fighter in town. I jokingly asked him why he wasn't at the Aspen fire. He said that since it's on Forestry land, they wouldn't allow county or state fire fighters in to help. More Fed. stupidity.

Guys, sorry I missed the meet up. I was running late as I picked up my grandson. I drove past the camp ground, but just saw some campers. I panned for a few hours then we had to head back. I think in future meet ups we should let eachother know what kind of vehicle we are driving, I know that would help me identify others.
So I missed meeting EagleDown, CharlesP and rik, dang it.......well hopefully in the future we can meet up again. Sorry guys hope you had fun! Let me know when you guys are going again.
Well, we might be there this weekend.

Just to let you all know if your trying to get a hold of Eagle he will not answer for a bit. His computer isn't working right now. So he can't get on treasurenet. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.
My pc's all better now. (lol) Thanks for letting everyone know!

Welcome to our thread. I saw your Cherokee there. Sorry we didn't connect. I think I'll go to the river this Saturday morning. Perhaps you'll be there.

I love your Toyota! It reminds me of my '76 Datsun I drove for several years. It was also dirt colored, but the paint under the dirt use to be white. (lol)

Come to the river this Saturday. I'd be happy to give you the tour.

By the way, welcome to our thread. Hope to hear more from you.
