The Many Lost Treasures of Mariposa, CA (Photos Added)

There may not be any water left in that lake before this sumeer is over, my guess is there is already lots of old channel exposed already

Today I was looking at a piece of property to buy on Dogtown Road near Greeley Hill. Backs up to Stanislaus Nat'l Forest. Did the realtor-inspection thing today. All went well, especially when I grabbed a half-bucket of dirt (3 pans) out of a crack on the seasonal creek, just over the property line in the first bedrock I saw. Then I drove down to Moccasin Creek to where I knew there was a small pool of water, panned it out and got some color. I think I might file a claim soon..... Rowdy, if you are dogtown just about a half mile or so is an area on the right. It looks like a turn around. Just know that is claimed already and there is another claim adjacent upstream from it. Went up there three months back to see if it was claimed or not. I got the claim number for both and, according to lr2000, both are active claims. Mark

Ps I would still like to find an area along maxwell creek

Hey eagle, I went out to Vagby and found the area you said help platinum. On a gate, I found CAMC 02976, man was I bummed. I didn't get a bucket of dirt like I had wanted. But when I got home I checked the number on lr2000. That number did not come up on any of the possibilities: active, inactive or whatever. I guess it still doesn't mean it is not being actively mined. I guess I need to stop in mariposa and check further. Mark

Ps. I did find some fly poop in maxwell creek down stream of bridge in coulterville. Not a complete waste of time

Hi Usher,

I know that turnout well. About a month ago, there was a busted-up blue "porta-potty" someone had thrown on the creek. It's gone now. That stretch of Maxwell is Nat'l Forest, and yep..... all claimed up. Just downstream, there is a 300-foot or so stretch of Maxwell that still has water in it (even now with the drought), and I drool every time I see it. I hope you are able to find a spot on Maxwell, but I'm pretty sure there's not an area that isn't already claimed or private property.

The spot that I sampled isn't on (or near) Maxwell. It is very seasonal (an unrecognized waterway, not on any map). All indications suggest that that it may have seen some small scale prospecting in the past, but judging by the lack of tailings and the size/age of the trees, it has never been mined.

Yeah, we'll, that was the number on the gate. Sucky part was I didn't see any other markers along the creek. There were also no "No Trespassing" signs anywhere. Mark

If you were to identify the Township, Range, and Section for that claim, you could do a LR2000 search for that and see if any active claims come up which match the first four digits (2976).........

Darn it, another problem!!

Have you ever wondered why; when you're reading a well written, non-fiction book, there will be some black and white photos in it, but very few (if any) color photos??

Well, it seems that the printing of color photos costs considerably more than black and white. So now, I have to decide which photos are worth printing. (Or not). Too bad that 'hard-copies' cost so much. At least with digital (electronic) copies there is no extra charge for photos.

Well, I'll try to figure out a way to do it.

Eagle, I am guessing that your originals can be easily transferred to black and white with photoshop, or some other type of software. Surely their is somone reading this forum that will swap some help for a credit in the book.

This guy edits and fix pictures on the forum in posts and really does nice work. Perhaps you could scan your photos and send them to him and he can switch them to black and white.

Eagle,

I've been reading this thead and decided to skip to the end to see what's new. I love it! I'm a career IT guy, so if you need some help, I'm willing and able. Just let me know.

Thanks Brother!! I'll have to go back to the first photos in the thread, download them, and give him a try. Man, there's a lot of photos to convert. Obviously, it's going to take a "few days" to accomplish this task. (lol)

Every once in a while, one of my great readers will come along and puncture my ego by letting me know that I don't know everything. (lol) AuSomeness; thank you for the reminder!! (lol)

Now, I might take you up on your offer if I had any idea of what an IT guy is. (lol)

Thanks for the offer, and hoping for a reply!!

IT means Information Technology, i.e. I'm the "computer guy" :). If you send me the information on what you need to have done, I'll take care of it. I read something about converting photos from color to b&w. I just need to know where those photos are. I'll let send you a private message with my email address. Let me know!

No intention of puncturing your ego, Eagle!

If all things are meant to be equal, I've got my work cut out for me to offer as much support and advice in my area of expertise as you have in this thread! Great stuff!

I hope those B&W photos are what you were looking for.

Yes! Those B&W conversions are just what we need. Now I need to figure out why my pc is balking at copying some more.
