Unbelievable! The luck involved to find both pieces of that buckle is staggering. Am I correct that these pieces were numbered? If so, do the numbers match on both halves?

The plate is numbered, but the keeper is not. They are, however, a perfect fit. And with one "set" of accoutrements coming out of the ground at a house site (rather than a battlefield or camp), I think it is highly likely that they came from the same belt.

Makes sense to me. I'm sure they were a set. I was just drawing on some old info I had in the back of my mind about the serial numbers. I bought a sword with a complete belt at a yard sale some years ago (which I sold) and I thought I had remembered that they were sometimes numbered.
