The Giving Tree: Seldom seen Half Dollar, SLQ, Cane Handle, Buckle, Round bal...

First hunt was a dud for 2016. Nada

So I hunted an island in the centre of a driveway of a 1680 house. The island had a 6' diameter stump and a whole lot of iron. So I gridded and removed the iron nails and crap. Down below and around it, this is what I found.

1893 Colombia Half dollar, designed by both Barber and Morgan. These were very popular coins but I never remember seeing one dug.

I saw that old stump and thought of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. So I sat there on the 250 year old tree stump for a few minutes and shared my old finds with the tree that seem 'em all go in the ground.

I have seen them posted here, but not for a long time. Seriously cool coin find man, you did awesome today! Nice SLQ too..

Congratualtions on the nice silver finds. The half dollar is very interesting! :occasion14:

I also like the relics... :-)

Well I see how your 2016 is gonna go when you are already pulling goods like these!, great job, here's to 300 silver for 2016!:occasion14:

You kicked off the year right! Nice finds.
Well my first hunt was wicked bad. I'm talking nothing! Today however... Lol

Thanks for looking

Thanks a bunch. I can't believe how hunts can be the polar opposites on one another. It really was the tree! Lol

Yea, thank you. I fixed that and added the photo.Too many photos posted confuses me. Thanks for looking J.

PS we're loosing ground heat fast. The ground was frozen 1/2-1" down. Yikes!!!

Aaah, that's better! I thought maybe you gouged the snot out of the obverse and didn't want to show it haha.

Again, really crazy good coin find.

Very awesome find Scraps. I bought a Columbian half just last year! Beautiful coins.

Thx for looking. I didn't know what the Colombia coin was at first. I saw the 1492 right away but said that's BS" out loud";)

300 seems like a chore after 257 this year.

2016 - 3 thus far. Lol

Cheers Chris

Hi Dave! I didn't even know these halves were minted actually. Not too much value but any coin with a sailing ship ranks high to me!

Nice finds! [emoji106]
Nothing but snow and ice for me! [emoji17]

Love them Giving Trees, especially when they give up the booty. Your post had me hit the internet to learn about that coin. Awesome find. :headbang: And then you go and dig an SLQ. I feel confident that I will pull my first SLQ in 2016.

Thanks for the wiki page Loco. Cool story and now I know why so many made it into circulation.
Cool story, cool hunt!
Nice finds!
Awesome!
Hey thanks. The finds varied in depth from 9" to 15" on the buckle. For me it's a cool hunt whenever you chase small chirps from down deep.
Steve,

Quite the haul....liking the half dollar.

Regards + HH

Bill
Thx Bill. That half dollar looks cool in the case.

It's not nearly as bad here, but I awoke this morning to 8-degree temps outside. It won't be long now...
Nice finds. I really like the SLQ!!

Thx. Digging those never gets old for me.

257 is freakin absurd!
I think it's safe to say that in your wake, NJ will have absolutely zero silver left the way you find it! Lol so you have 3 so far, I got 1, that's literally the closest I'll be all season because I'm sure you're about to blow me outta the water lol!!

Good luck, keep killing it
