Thank you.

I'm thinking you should know that this is a BANNER find ! How about a bit more back story about the hunt .

Okay, this site is a place I've been hunting for a while now. Whenever I scanned this particular area, I heard scattered iron with a clean signal in the middle and went for it. Didn't clean it off until I got home. Couldn't believe my eyes. Figured it was a flat button or large cent.

whoa, that is awesome. congrats!

I'm sure you know all this but it's a GWI 11 and there's several variations of that particular style. Incredible find on EVERYBODYS want list. Great find and congrats

Without a doubt I agree it is a great find and a true relic of times past

I see many George Washington inaugural buttons posted on this forum, of several designs and varying degrees of patination and corrosion; and some always say that they deserve a banner nod, I suppose my question is, why do all GW buttons deserve a banner nomination?
Granted, many of the best ones should have that consideration, but not all. As far as rarity goes , with as many as I see posted, they are not that rare, at least anymore, there have been literally dozens posted over the past couple of years, to me , they aren't rare; but I don't wish to take anything away from this find
So, to the OP, that is a great find and wish you much success on your future hunts and I sincerely hope the really rare one comes your way

very cool find, practically no hope for one of those around here so enjoy it for us

Dozens posted over a couple of years makes them "not rare"? If it's two to three dozen I disagree. If it's 20-30 dozen then maybe you have a point.

I think it's a great find and banner worthy. My vote is on the way.

I think rare and scarce can mean different things to different people. A lot of people consider rare being an item that very few are known to exist and you basically never see one. An example would be a 1792 half disme or disme.
I think most would consider these GW buttons to be scarce for sure. I would certainly love to have one. But the point is that these two words can mean very different things to different people.
To the OP this is a fantastic find and one that most will never find

Little late for that.

You make a good point

Consider this, though rare is a term that may raise controversy; scarce may better describe these buttons
I guess the point I was trying to make is that whether they are rare or scarce is that they do show up regularly and get posted regularly on this forum and are no doubt found by others who participate on other forums or not at all on any forum, but are found
There seems to be plenty showing their faces is all I'm saying, question remains, do they all deserve to be a banner on this forum?
Good finds they are, I guess every individual can decide whether they are or not
I was just opening up a debate on this and thought that this and other finds are instantly bandwagoned as banners whenever they are posted
