tell me im crazy ! im ordering an Explorer SE

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

Weight issue seems to vary by person using them..they are no heavier than any other machine i have used..
maybe it should come with an x1 and an unlimited supply of batteries????
I would like a detector that would tell me exactly what is in the ground but so far no luck!! ;D

well i don't agree with that statement at all. Weight is clearly a problem with EX II and SE. I'm 5'11" and 220lbs - certainly no lightweight. But anyone who uses this machine for any length of time - will come to realize that it is heavy and should have a hip-mount option. They obviously cannot make lighter or they would have. Rotor muscles and tendons in shoulder will be sorely tested. That's just a fact IMO

both of the last two high-end machines I purchased from Garrett and Compass had hip-mount options. They were heavy machines but they took care of this fact.

Response time to signals has also been mentioned on some posts...could the se handle a very trashy area with separation of signals and accurate pinpointing? Is there a smaller coil that pinpoints well and takes the weight off...I use the small 5.3 coil with my dfx most of the time otherwise I too get tired/sore quicker...

Im 6' tall and weigh 170 and it is no heavier than my fisher machine.See the post a couple up from a dfx user.Apparently his machine is heavy to him....I think all machines would be nicer with hip mount and after about 4 or 5 hrs of hunting with any of my machines my arm is sore.
And i think they make a chest mount for the explorer....

I have a small 5" excellerator coil that i use.And there is a weight difference with it on.It is very easy to pinpoint and pick targets out of trashy areas.I also have a 6 x9 coil that works fairly well.
I also recently bought the tall mens shaft for the explorers.it seems to help keep me from leaning sideways when i swing and keeps my side and shoulder from getting sore.

Thanks this is the kind of info that I think helps....I noticed to by extending the length I took a little pressure off my shoulder/back with the dfx...

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

this is great info and i will keep in mind about the weight and the length of the shaft since i am also 6 foot and about 165, i have not had the length problem of the shaft on the X70 but i have noticed the weight of the stock coil after a couple hours of swinging but its not too bad , the 5x10 DD coil is alittle lighter, the X70 is heavier then the BH landstar that i was swinging before and sure did make my shoulder hurt some for awhile but i guess i built up to it so its not a problem now, but after swinging anything for about 6 or 8 hours i can still fill it some but its not often i get to swing that long this time of year cause of work. i'll try to let everyone know my take on the weight and shaft length after this weekened if i dont have to work ! once again thanks for any info ;)

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

Teverly. No offense taken by anything you said. What would you recomend for a smaller coil for the explorer in trashy conditions. I am a bit confused about all the options out there. Gregg...I can say without a doubt that the dfx/xlt are lighter and easier to swing for extended periods. I really like both machines and think they both have their pros. Though I swing the EXII most of the time now......if that tells you anything. Though when I do pick up the XLT or DFX if feels ten pounds lighter than the Explorer.

Really?... ??? I get more confused the more I read about the comparision...How about for silver coins that are deeper... ??? I mean maybe 7-9 inches...I was getting some nice hits up to 7.0 with the dfx today...when I was'nt picking up surface clad from the sidelines of the weekend soccer matches...

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

I'm ordering a swing thing for my Explorer. That sucker is heavy.

Good luck. I love the Minelabs. The Explorer is a great machine once you learn it.

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

just put mine on the weight scale ,,, 4.6 pounds with the battery, my x70 with the 5x10 DD coil is 3.0 , i imagine the stock coil for the x70 weighs alittle more, but so far i really like the SE ;)

have not weighed dfx...but with the small coil a lot lighter...I made my own swingy thingy....used a bungee cord and a travel strap... :) Use it every time out...

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

well been playing with the Se in the yard after work and messing with the settings , trying to learn how it all works and found i missed a few dimes and quarters and pennies in my yard ! also missed a 1956D wheat that was about 4 inches down next to a broken house key , boy that gave me some changeing signals to play with before they were dug up ;D going to take some time to get to know this machine but i'm likeing it so far , the weights not too bad so far but i havent been on a 3 hour hunt yet so we will see this weekened i hope ;)

yep ya add an X-1 probe and you're over 5 lbs! You'll like the machine - esp. when you start digging stuff at 8-12" mark. Then you'll know you're really on to something. Best of luck with it!

Depends. for super trashy areas i have a round 5" excelerator coil.I also have the 6x9 dd excellerator coil.I have not had the 6x9 for very long but it works very well and as soon as they get the crops off i have a couple of old sites to test them out on....
They also a make the detector a lot lighter and i have found coins fairly deep with them both...

Re: tell me i'm crazy ! i'm ordering an Explorer SE

thanks mastereagle22 ! think i am crazy to want to dig 12 inches for something with a digger :o MindHunter you are right about the screen , i noticed right off that would be alittle hard to see , teverly i will be looking at the 6x9 DD coil also in the future let me know about depth on that thing ;) Ocean7 i think i'll go without the x-1 probe for awhile this thing is heavy enough now :o

Good Luck with the new SE's Your going to love em.

Learning Curve? What learning Curve... There really isn't one.. I was a XLT user before I bought my SE and I find the SE very easy to program and Operate... I personally found the xlt programming to be a bit confusing and a hassle to deal with...
but then again I never mastered the unit...
Yes the unit is a little heavy with all the options.. 10" coil & Sunray Probe..... I 've heard that the SE and DFX weigh the same...

Pinpointing is a Breeze ... Sunray Probe is Awesome and wouldn't want to hunt without it... It's that Good. worth every penny..

Trash seperation: sorts right through it.

My main issue with the SE would be not being able to clearly see the screen when hunting in full sun...

I know with the dfx it has a viewing angle adjustment which helps with the sun....and seeing the screen. Maybe the se has one? ???
