I don't see a "Y" on it. The slants appear to be part of the M. The center vertical line looks to be part of either an "F" or a stylized "I".

If you assume the letters "M", "F" and "G" are in the center, that leaves "N", "C" plus then the smaller letters "c", "o".

So, maybe NC Mfg Co. or CN Mfg Co. ??

Front and back are identical, right down to the small pull..

I don't see the G, looks like a C to me. NCFMC Co. ???

It's the inner "c".
It does look like a "c", but it has a funny squiggley tail on it to the right - which is why I went with "g".
You have to look close.

There's no funny tail on the outer big "c", so that's why I'm thinking it's a different letter: "g".
Either way, it's a horrible logo in my opinion. And very confusing.

I agree with BosnMate, I also see that G as a C, as the line that would make it a G doesn't seem long enough.
I've tried many combinations with no real luck... Since its probably not from the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Council nor the others that came up.
As far as what it is, all I could think of was a sliding peephole, like a speakeasy might have had... Though its not similar to the ones I could find.
Also couldn't find a mail slot of similar design. But why the design and tab on both sides?

Do you suppose it would be off of a fire engine or possibly a hand or horse drawn fire wagon. Slide open to get tools or something like that. ???

But then the decorative part and "slide tab" are only needed on one side, but anything is possible.
I'd contemplated a vent opening like on a train or trolley car... and wondered if the M.C was for motor coach? All just way out guesses.

Heres a couple more pics.. I flipped it over so yo can see the letters sit the same way on both sides. i found this metal detecting at an early 1800's home site that has recently been leveled in RI. there is a mid 1700's house next door and there are old mill ruins very close by...

Thanks for the updated photo. I now don't see a Y in the logo....or an I for that matter....it looks more like an F. So we have a big N,C, and F, a middle size M and C, and a small co. Maybe North Carolina Foundry or some city with the initials NC? Being in R.I, I keep trying to find something in your state or Connecticut, but, nothing is clicking at the moment.

There is a New Castle, Conn, and a New Castle foundry in Indiana though........

What's this letter in the centre an F with a small co at the bottom? Sorry for the crude retouch.
