can anyone id this symbol? its solid brass, sbout 6" by 4" and its 2 sided.. any ideas?

sliding opening cover... the tabs on either side are the slide stop (inside) and a pull on the outside to open it by -- think of a old cast iron type stove with a sliding door to put wood into it ...

I was also thinking stove door, but whats confusing me is why have a pull and logo on both sides?? And it seems a little small to be an access door..

the lettering would fit for..... North Carolina Cast Iron Metalwork's Co. (company) a brass sliding grate top part ( for cooking heat to go thru?) on a cast iron stove or a feed door for coal / wood on the front of it ?

ah the reason for it being 2 sided --a left and right sided "pull plate" type covering on a cast iron stove top that would allow the open fire heat to come out for cooking ....think of 2 plates one pulls leftward the other rightward -- by just flipping the plate over 1 dual sided logo ed plate can be used on either "side"

I don't think brass would be the best material to use on a part of a stove that heated up?
What about an old retail counter display of maybe chocolates or cigars? The door would move as Ivan described, the customer would see one side and the retailer the other (as to why decorative on both sides).

DCMatt --its dual side lettered and has a tab on each side so it (1 part) can be used rather left / right handed ( so it can be mounted either way in the swinging door set up for either a right or left handed person))-- a cast iron parlor stove with a brass door cover type pull set on iron door frame work (just like the one you show) ..a door that covers a hole in the front for coal / wood to be put into === made by the North Carolina Cast Iron Metalworks Co. ...that's my best guess. .big N big C smaller C big I big M small co.

I wonder if it's railroad related? The lettering type / style reminds me of old switch locks.

Just trying to show 'proof of concept' that is is likely a parlor stove door...

Here is a parlor stove with two sliding doors on the front.

Here is a patent drawing of a stove with sliding doors - 1883.

I'd agree 100% if it didn't have a thumb tab on both sides...that would kinda be the same as my wood stove having a door latch on the inside?

I was thinking the tabs on both sides serve a dual purpose - manufacturing efficiency (you can make one door that works on either side instead of making two unique parts) and the tab on the inside serves as a 'stop' so the door can't be slid beyond the opening.

I couldn't figure out the logo. That would certainly tell the tale of this relic.

maybe a draft door for a wood/ coal heater tab keeps it from sliding out of place
