Thanksgiving week is one of the few times that my son and I make it a point to get out together on a hunt, last one together was in April!
So first he went to this site that we last visited in April. This is the same site where I got the silver pocket spill (Bust Halves and Spanish) and I resisted going back there again until he got a chance to hunt there at least once without me.
So on Wednesday he went there after having only a half day of work prior to gobble gobble day and I got a nice email in the evening thanking me for "not pounding the snot out of the site". As soon as I read that sentence I knew he did good!

He sent me a group photo of his finds before cleaning, not bad at all, makes Dad feel better about doing so well at that site earlier.

Then I received photos of the 3 coppers he found, he was a happy camper to say the least, I saw the coins Sunday and they even look better in person than on the photos. A 1773 KGIII Halfpenny (Aging George variety) 1775 KGIII Halfpenny (Long neck 3-a variety) and a 1787 Conn copper Miller 33.17-r.1 variety.

So on Sunday we both went to this site and we did get a few more coppers to appear. Dan got 6 buttons, a shoe buckle piece, a working Mini Mag Light and a 1808 Classic Head Large Cent. I started out with a shoe buckle piece, and then after awhile I finally got my first colonial copper using my new detector and it was a 1782 KGIII Irish Halfpenny. Not long after that I got a beautiful deep reading where some hunter on a ATV had been going back and forth on this fall to his tree stand and a beautiful thick copper comes out of the hole. I knew right away it had to be a Liberty Cap Large Cent and once it dried out some the 179 and later 4 were visible, so I have found my 5th 1794 Large Cent!

What surprised me on the hunt was no buttons for me and I was digging everything, sure dug enough buckshot that should have been buttons but not to be. But, I will take the coppers any day if I can't find a good button. One of the buttons my son got was a nicely inscribed Tombac type. It has been awhile since I got a nice one like that. Overall, another good hunt with my son.

Definitely some nice old coppers! That 1794 LC is beautiful!! I'm surprised it took you guys so long to get back to that spot, considering how good you did last time.

The flashlight probably fell off the guys ATV as he was driving through :laughing7:

Nice hunt Don and Dan, good to see your getting out still.
Coppers cleaned up nice

sweet old coppers...nice pics to go with it...

Hey! Nice to see both Tnet and you are both back in the saddle! Those are some sweet finds by you both!

Those Magna Lites are built tough! I also dug a working one a while back. They are not banner material, but I still get a kick out of finds like that.

Did I understand correctly when you say you got a new detector? Which model did you end up with?

Those are some great coppers there...I hear you on the buttons, I havent even dug 1 on my last 5 hunts...tons of shotgunn shells...Just no buttons :dontknow: ...Congrats on your sweet coppers :icon_thumleft:

My ten year old Explorer XS decided to do a hissy fit electronically, and coupling that problem with it being plain worn out physically, it was time for a new detector, so rather than go with something I do not know, I got a new Explorer SE Pro, which after 4 hunts now has gone great, nothing new to learn and the improvements made over the last 10 years from the original XS are appreciated.
