Thanksgiving week is one of the few times that my son and I make it a point to get out together on a hunt, last one together was in April!
So first he went to this site that we last visited in April. This is the same site where I got the silver pocket spill (Bust Halves and Spanish) and I resisted going back there again until he got a chance to hunt there at least once without me.
So on Wednesday he went there after having only a half day of work prior to gobble gobble day and I got a nice email in the evening thanking me for "not pounding the snot out of the site". As soon as I read that sentence I knew he did good!
He sent me a group photo of his finds before cleaning, not bad at all, makes Dad feel better about doing so well at that site earlier.
Then I received photos of the 3 coppers he found, he was a happy camper to say the least, I saw the coins Sunday and they even look better in person than on the photos. A 1773 KGIII Halfpenny (Aging George variety) 1775 KGIII Halfpenny (Long neck 3-a variety) and a 1787 Conn copper Miller 33.17-r.1 variety.
So on Sunday we both went to this site and we did get a few more coppers to appear. Dan got 6 buttons, a shoe buckle piece, a working Mini Mag Light and a 1808 Classic Head Large Cent. I started out with a shoe buckle piece, and then after awhile I finally got my first colonial copper using my new detector and it was a 1782 KGIII Irish Halfpenny. Not long after that I got a beautiful deep reading where some hunter on a ATV had been going back and forth on this fall to his tree stand and a beautiful thick copper comes out of the hole. I knew right away it had to be a Liberty Cap Large Cent and once it dried out some the 179 and later 4 were visible, so I have found my 5th 1794 Large Cent!

What surprised me on the hunt was no buttons for me and I was digging everything, sure dug enough buckshot that should have been buttons but not to be. But, I will take the coppers any day if I can't find a good button. One of the buttons my son got was a nicely inscribed Tombac type. It has been awhile since I got a nice one like that. Overall, another good hunt with my son.
