So... Please tell me Why does a metal detector cost $2499 again?

Actually, almost any detector will find what the average detedtorist seeks.
The reason for the high cost is basically it is a nitch market where mass production methods can't be used to any great extent.
Of course there is also the P T Barnum principal. lol Frank five star.png

I have to laugh at all the complaints of "overpriced" metal detectors. Do some research on the costs of top-end detectors in the 1970s, and then look at the cost of living index from then to now. If the prices held constant with inflation then the top of the line models would be $2900 or higher, so consider everything under that a bargain!

Not any worse than any other hobby.......Guns are expensive, golf clubs, and greens fees, four wheelers, bow hunting, its all expensive.................if you wanna play, your going to pay

WHY because like more than one on here has said … BECAUSE YOU WILL PAY THERE PRICE don't buy them at those prices and watch how fast the price comes down..

Don't get me wrong because I like the Deus but if they could drop the price by almost half why didn't they just sell them for that from the beginning?

I consider a $49 brand-new microwave oven a bargain.

Because ones were buying them then the big sales stopped so to sell them they had to cut the price..And when the big sales stopped …………..WOW……... did they cut the price you can buy a new one now for what used ones are selling for

keppy, right after I started the overpriced peripheral coil thread, Minelab started giving away an aditional larger coil for FREE with every new CTX.
As soon as everyone started arguing with me about how reasonably priced an additional $600 coil was, they shut the offer down after about two weeks....amazing Huh? Coincidence?

Luckily, El Padron got his new coil for free

The trend I don't like and seems the new direction is with only authorized overly expensive coils. Started with exterra series now fbs2 series.i was looking on ebay and 6inch coils for $300 are you kidding me.

Supply and demand, don't like the price don't buy.... Its called free enterprise, a business has the right to charge what ever price they want for their product .....

Stop buying all detectors and accessories for several years, see how your boycott works out...

Yes and these guys will grab them up .. these companies know that except Deus they found out you can only push so far .. The reason i give up on Minelab is for what they charge for any type of extras not only coils..

It looks like it is working on Deus..

Back in the eighties my buddies dad made metal detectors. Man I wished I would have sat down with him. He was a very smart and interesting fellow. He also hunted alot down in south Florida. Get this, he only had one leg, and still kicked ass.

Only reason price dropped is the increase value of dollar over the Euro...XP which makes Deus is in France which uses Euro, dollar value vs euro goes up prices come down in US, dollar value vs Euro goes down price in US goes up.....

No one said anything about boycotting, I am just declaring that some of the standard of the industry equipment that I have purchased is basically extremely overpriced and underdeveloped, that's all, never said anything about boycotting. I'm not proud that I've purchased it.
I look at what other people purchase as state-of-the-art and "well made" and I can't understand how they don't feel violated.
They simply don't know any better

No, they're just not selling any anymore, that's all.
If that were true it would be the first time in history that ever happened.
So why hasn't the price of anything else besides fuel dropped also?

Everyone is an economist but it's not that simple.

Is it true that you still have to dig up aluminum and pull tabs with the expensive detectors to find gold? Do they come with cup holders?

Honestly, how can you argue?
Just admit that a lot of the stuff that you have purchased is extremely overpriced underdeveloped, carelessly built trash.
Look at other modern consumer electronics.
You have effectively purchased the eight track equivalent of modern tecnology.
Look at what you are getting, look at how much you are paying, analyze what you have received in exchange for your money.
Admit that your hunting experience has really not been improved in step with the upgrades that you have made.
Admit it, and make sure your voice is heard.
The current technology is so antiquated, the construction is so shoddy that industry wide improvements would be presented basically overnight.
Suddenly your $135 pin pointers will mysteriously be waterproof for the first time in history and you will be asked to pay less for them.
This is really simple stuff.

Everyone drives, not everyone metal detects. This alone has an effect on the price. Less competition creates greater margins. We all are in a really nitch hobby. Yea its changing with the shows and such. Hell they had a stack of detectors in sports authority during the holidays. I feel alot of people just dont get the treasure bug like we have. Theres just not enough of us to have a detector shop next to every bait shop. And u know what? I LIKE THAT
