So... Please tell me Why does a metal detector cost $2499 again?

Talk about beating a dead horse. This topic has been going for 10 months. He said, she said. My mommy is pretty than yours. On and on. Enough guys. I starting reading this post for some real insight as to why a detector costs x amount and if there is an advantages over a cheaper machine. Some of the replies have been rather mean, off the subject and continually repeated and repeated again. Everyone have a good day and may 2015 be the best year for all of us.

You know, the truth is it hurts to be beautiful. If we want reasonably priced waterproof pin pointers, (because right now there are none) we have to make it known that we won't continue spending hard earned money on products that don't make complete sense.

Go ahead and boycott, I'm sure a one man boycott will work wonders.....

Vibra-Probe 580 is $129 and water proof to I believe 100 feet ..

99% of people detecting do not need waterproof pin pointers waterproof past 6 foot.

Just curious, Do you think its vaguely possible that Garret decided to go ahead and spend the extra buck per unit to waterproof the already developed, soon to be re-released Pro pointer based on the views set forth on this thread?

I mean, in the past it certainly wasn't a priority, the timing is perfect and its the first time in history that any of the established manufacturers have taken the initiative to do so.

So is the Garrett pinpointer out yet. The water proof one

sent from a sending device.

Yes Sir,

You can pre order it from any of the fine retailers that advertise on this site.
But you won't find them on this thread too often.

Having already purchased an existing older model, I think the improved (actually cheaper) waterproof pointer will provide better value.

No, it's not out yet. Dealers have said they are SUPPOSED to begin shipping in early February.

Yes it's out, it was at CES this past week, it's just not shipping yet, you can preorder and receive one of the first to be shipped

Have to spray paint it. Cant hang with that bright orange/yellow thing.

Kinda wonder if these will be any better about the falsing that seems to happen so often.

Scares me that it might be just a waterproof propointer. I've had bad luck with them.

You should see what I spend on fishing gear - including a boat - and I usually toss them back.

Sometimes just using nice gear is a pleasure worth investing in. I'm not going to run out and buy a $2,500 detector or a $25,000 shotgun or a $60,000 car - but if someone else wants to and they can afford it - more power to 'em. But there certainly are diminishing returns in straight performance as the price climbs.

Ok...not a $2500 detector, how much then? I have moved up over the years from one to a better and so on. So the one I use today hits deeper than and inexpensive one. It pays out as I find more, deeper targets. Targets that I wouldn't have found with the last one I was using.

Just for general info.......

Websites such as Treasurenet and threads such as this are painstakingly monitored by major manufacturers for something called "consumer sentiment".

They painstakingly mine anonymous revues and reactions to their products and services, which provide very accurate and valuable information about their targeted demographic. (the clients that buy their products)

The retail equivalent are invitations to participate in online surveys that are often printed under register receipts that offer free incentives for consumer participation, (Two free tacos, A free soda, A chance a a monthly $5000 drawing etc...), and other devices.

The results of their research provides accurate intended client profile info such as INTELLIGENCE, commitment, expectation, age, income, etc.

They then can accurately determine what their clients are expecting of them, just how much they can possibly charge for their products before people stop buying them, and the probability of major repercussions from offerings cheap trash at the highest price possible.

Ideally of course if their clients will buy into hype and fluff rather then substance they are in a position to earn huge profit without actually having to reinvest in quality control or evolutionary improvement.

Sorry, I sort of think that high dollar)things cost what they do because some people(and I have) will pay the price to have an item. I HAD to have a Rolex. I still remember writing the check for $7000 so I could wear a heavy, crime attracting, stainless and 18k object whose gold links stretched every time I played golf. But boy, was I cool. Eventually took a loss and sold it...

I work as a Data Scientist. The overwhelming majority of large commercial companies are not taking advantage of this information, and I would be surprised if minelab, garrett, etc are, as they are relatively small compared to anything in say the fortune 1000. But that can be good, they are small enough to where a phone call or well written letter may actually get some attention, and they likely have people monitoring this forum as you mention, my point being its probably not automated like larger companies would do

Well, if every post came across as yours just did, I assure you that all $135 pin pointers would already be waterproof.

I have talked to some of them about threads on forums, they don't monitor the forums, the retailers do but the manufacturers usually do not........
