Ok, this wasn't this past weekends find but it was last weekends find.
Thought I would do a little detecting up on the mountain here in Alabama.
But I found out it might still be a little early. I was just a swinging away in the woods
when all of the sudden I just happen to look ahead of me a few extra feet and there
he was, one big ugly timber rattler. Well since I had not found anything else that day
I tied him to my detector and went home. (after I hit him in the head with a club) ;D
Then I mounted him this past week, and it turned out pretty good..
Sending a few pics. Please be careful out there, those no shoulders are moving
around.

you just hit him on the head and tied him to your detector? why, might I ask did you tie him to your detector?

cool mount, are you a taxidermist?

Narthoniel I had boots on but not good enough to stop his bite. ???
And Mojo I'm a country boy but believe me my heart was a pounding
when I seen him. :o

Goes4ever,
Well actually I hit him about 5 inches below his head and it
broke his neck. He was still kind of alive and I didn't want to
mess up his body too bad. So I put a bag over his head that
was so skinny he shouldn't have been able to get his mouth
open very far. That's why he was tied to my detector. ;D
He was 4 feet 6 and 1/2 inches long and was about 10 pounds.
I do dabble in taxidermy, this is about the 4 fourth snake I have
done. I still need some practice and I want to learn how to do
an open mouth mount one day.

Dex378,
I'm not really insane I just love detecting and he got in my way! :D
I thought get him now or maybe see him again later after he got me. 8)

Lol, the first thing that popped into my head was: "dady needs a new belt!!!". :tongue3:
Great mount!!!

I am a city boy with a country heart. I have been out in the country plenty of times killin all kinds of snakes, but I have never seen a rattler in person.

were you able to get the meat out before stuffing it? fat one like that is good eating!

Great job on the mount! If you did get the meat from it, I would like to try some, I hear rattle snake is good eatin. Maybe post a pic how is is prepared. HH, Mike

Hope you ate the meat..I can cook a mean rattlesnake. That mount is bad azz!!! Excuse my mispelled language, but WOW!!

dang that reminds me of amose mosses knocked allagaters in the head with one arm lol i used to hunt rattlers in ok years ok nice snak and pics . kch

Thanks Guy's for all the complements!
No I didn't get to keep the meat on this one.
As I'm skinning him out I sprinkle some dry tan
on him, the dry tan makes it easier to hang on
to while I'm skinning him out. I have eaten some
before and depending on how it's cooked it can
taste like chicken or even bacon. ;D

Its amazing how good they blend in, I had to look close to see him hanging on your detector. We have them heavy at our ranch in Del Rio Tx. Always cruising the brush.

Careful out there! :o

Does that mean chicken tastes liked rattler?

Had both and prefer chicken...the other tastes like snake

LoL! Very cool. I nearly stepped on a little garter snake mding on Saturday in Northern Michigan. Not quite in the same league!
Like that mount!

in my parts we got lots 4 to 6 ft models and some even bigger in the woods for you to play wit -- the hides properly cured make a mean belt buckle cover too
