Ok guys. I initially wasn't going to post this. While I was hunting last week I unearthed literally the rarest US silver coin of the 20th century. A 1901 S Barber Quarter!!!! VF/XF (details) with environmental damages and a few scratches. Yes... It's a crying shame its a "dug" coin... But hey... It's the find of a lifetime. There's no doubt in my mind about it's authenticity. The site it was found at, simply put, hasn't been touched since around 1920. I've also had several local dealers (one of which was a former PCGS grader) tell me it's genuine. I know either way it needs to be graded and slabbed, but what are your thoughts? Value? Grade? Where to sell? Thanks! Still spinning! Idaho! On the map!!!

Wow! That's a sweet find too Corinth1812. I would keep it in the family but one less car payment is more important to my family right now. I'll keep you posted. I shod be hearing back from Ian at great collections next week

Its not this coin on that note. I don't wanna derail or hijack a thread. But there is a coin that just keeps on getting found out there that just was not minted in enough quatity to reflect the amount of finds now days. Not sure why. Back on topic to this coin, glad to here shops have said it was legit. The fake vs real sites are not that easy. Well it wasn't clear an dry to me. Dr Tones best of luck at auction...but you won't need it. Thanks for sharing...hh gl -Joe

I Also believe some Coins/ Relics are left for Certain People to find..
Too many cases of folks finding Rare & Nice Items in " Hunted out areas".

Ill bet the Dr's Hunting partner has a slight case of envy 'that maybe Dr,Tones can take care of if he makes a Big Sale'LOL
Esp, if his buddy put him on the Site.
This is why I hunt Alone ...(Greed)!...No actually I like to play by my own rules.
Davers

If I found that coin and took it to a coin shop to ask for an opinion and the dealer said that it is counterfeit I would not know what to do, I would probably be heart broken until I found a real one which knowing my luck would never happen. Again, Congrats on such an amazing key date.

Coinman123,

Awesome find of a lifetime. I would probably take a picture of it and use it as a screen saver on my phone and PC just so I could look at it all the time. As far as the rarest 20th century silver goes, there is actually at least one I know of rarer. The 1916 standing liberty quarter, mintage 52,000 (20,000 less than the 1901S barber quarter).

Congratulations on a rare, key date, Banner worthy find!

Wayne1956_ That's very true. While there are others that have a lower MINT, the 01 S quarter is the rarest in circulation ;)

Is this the best hobby in the world or what?

Congratulations on the find of a life time.
