We used to have one fly around here just after dark, they eat mosquitoes

But why do they need those "Fangs" to eat mosquitoes ? Mosquito meat is quite tender, :tongue3:
I did not realize that many variations of bats.

Ok folks...
Here is the deal on these... I was looking up something and ran across a bat picture... one of these actually...
Anyway...
I was intrigued and did a few searches on bats and saved these to share with you...
I feel tht the bat is an overlooked creature that is not commonly seen or known...
they are a very strange creature...
And we never see them...
BUT...
They are all around us... everywhere. heh

It's a shame around here in eastern Canada. A European fungi/bacteria got accidentally brought here and is wiping the bat population out. The bats over there have a natural defence but not our bats. I think bat researchers in Europe brought it back accidentally doing research here. They may even go extinct. It's called "white nose syndrome" and makes the bats come out of hibernation early and freeze or starve to death. Look it up!

I've been mosquito soup. I was in some lodge pole pines near Lemhi Pass, on the Montana side, and nature called. When I dropped my pants, the mosquito scout sent out word, "Hey, I gotta white tail here." Those buggers came boring in, and nobody ever got done doing their duty faster than I did that day.

Yes, in hibernation sites, bats have died by the millions, back East.
Two reported dead bats in Washington state recently, and researchers are scrambling to find the population of bats,
that might be infected with this fungus. The spores get on their muzzles, ears, so the bat wakes up to scratch, and loses vital body fat to sustain them through a long winter sleep - they starve to death ! Stay tuned for more news on this problem....

Florida has its share of "aggressive" little darts!
You are poke a dotted head to toe and in between when they get you!

Independence Rock, Wyoming. If the wagon train made Independence Rock by the 4th of July, they were on schedule.
