Finding old stuff, getting paid to do it, too!
Back when I was still working, I found this fragment of a
"Platter Mortar", an Indian grindstone artifact, that was held
on the lap of a woman, when she processed nuts, plant bulbs, etc.
You are looking at the broken end, and showing its slightly concave, bowl-shaped,
very smooth grinding surface on the left. Might have been 24" long, but we never found the missing piece.

You certainly saved its life, but being injured, in the water, It may be sick with RABIES or (the dreaded) White-Nose Syndrome, that is killing MILLIONS of these little guys, back East.

Or maybe it was caught off guard by a wave or a boat wake as it was feeding on insects over the water.
As I said, I seriously doubt it survived. I suppose I will just let animals in distress die in the future so I don't have to put up with posts like yours. Thanks for the post!

Guess I will dig out and dust off some detectors... charge em and prep up...
The party people are out in full force...
Did a drive by on some areas I hold dear to my detecting heart and they are full of frolicking jewelry wearing drinkers...
Charging now and prepping.

Will spend the next few days hopping from to spot to spot.
I will cover all my spots which extend from as far south Desoto to north of green key.
Tons of mileage ahead.

IF you guys are smart... and have the time...
I suggest all of you do the same.
Do your recon before detecting is my "tip"...
No detectors... just go and "look" for the groups and types.

For all you local yokels ...
IF you are lucky...
You may just catch a glimpse of the elusive ARC and his better half in the mist. :P

I don't want to derail your thread so here is another picture. it is only about 1/8" long. I have no idea what it is. It was in my car. It is sitting on a louver of one of my vents.

I really need to clean my car!

When my wife was so bad off before she passed away, we had her hospital bed in the living room, up against the front window where she could look out at the yard. I have been feeding squirrels in the yard for a number of years, so it wasn't much to entice them up onto the porch. I set up a stump right at the end of her bed and fed them peanuts. They made a mess, but right at first my wife seemed to enjoy watching them, so the mess was worth it. But in a few days, and I suppose it was because of her dementia, to her mind they became a menace, and were really agitating her, so I had to stop feeding them next to the window, for fear she would throw something and break the glass.
This guy is right at the foot of her bed, outside the window.

Check out the split ear on this one. Man they would fight over those peanuts. Mostly chase each other, but every now and then they would really mix it up in a real brawl.

Meant no harm, just commenting on how badly the bats back East have been doing the last ten years. The fungus is spread primarily among a hibernating colony - fungus make them itch and scratch, and they end up using the fat they saved up for winter, and starve to death.
I compliment you on trying to give the guy a break, a chance at life. Bats are a valuable critter, fascinating to watch them catch bugs
at night (watch a street light for awhile), you'll likely see them go to work on the local bug population!
