Yikes, starting a sporting goods store ?

He says it's my retirement plan for when he dies. LOL!

He's been collecting vintage fishing tackle for years. I figure this is an area of "treasure hunting" that we can bond over. He just likes the stuff, I like learning the history and researching. However, my A. D. D. takes over, so I only learn bits and pieces.

Talk about timing. 'Tis the Season.

And.......

Alright!

I'm liking the old outboards in the background....

I see a Johnson 100 B in the box of reels? Worked on them plenty of times. Keeping the drag happy. Caught my first steelhead with one. About a five pounder.
The red one with the hole for the line to go through the center of the cover is familiar. ....Might have one somewhere.
A bunch of Zebco reels in the pics too. Been in the guts of that brand many times. Clean the sand out ,(c'mon kid ,quit getting sand in the reel!) inspect gears ,lube .

Z.E.B.C.O.
Zero Hour Bomb Company.

Where many manufacturers were involved in war time production by reducing output of their standard fare to supply the military , I think Zebco was originally a military supplier that sought other products to build post war. Foggy memory though , and it's only been a couple cups of coffee so far. (Too lazy to look it up...)

The pack rod with it's fabric case is neat too. Often priced at a premium when new...Meant I never scored one.

Cork grips look pretty decent from what I can see. There is a two handed one (?) that is interesting.
Guy had collected quite a mix ,for sure.

I started researching before I posted the pics here. I had read that also, about a company that was a military supplier and then after WWII they searched for something else to manufacture. My memory is bad, and I couldn't find it again, but I wasn't researching ZEBCO at the time. I suspect that'ws how a lot of them got into it. I was researching the red reel which is a fre-line. I learned that Fre-line started being mfg'd under Wright & McGill in the 1950's and then by 1967 the Fre-line was dropped and the reels just had W & G on them and made in Japan. So that dates this one to between those dates because it has both.

I also learned that most reels sell for $10-$20. Exception are Pflueger's which can run fairly high, if you have the right one. So, we searched his stuff. He's got stashes every flipping where. So far we have found two. One of them is a Supreme and I found a similar one online for $29.

The rod and reel with the bag I am just scratching the surface on. The reel is a stream & lake which is supposedly a low end set up. But they were talking rod and not reel, so I have to keep looking. The rod it is on is not a S & L but a W & M trailmaster 8642 4TMC. W & M rod co. was formed in 1946 when it acquired the Granger Co. I found a sight to help me date it, but haven't yet.

Drew McGill and Stan Wright started W & M in the late 1920's. The idea came to Drew when he was taking a break from a bad day of fishing. He saw an eagle land in a tree and noticed how it's claws dug into the wood. He then started thinking about how eagles catch fish. He modified his hooks on the spot, ended up with a good day fishing. Brought the idea back to Wright and they started making the hooks that we all know as Eagle Claw.

Lot's to learn!!!

Relevantchair, I also looked up Zebco since you posted that about it being Zero Hour Bomb Company. Thanks!

In business since 1932 manufacturing electric time bombs used in fracturing oil-well formations

I’m feeling moved to open up a bit to you guys, let you know me a bit deeper. I did not write this but it is where I have been for 15 +/- years. Some one else that volunteers for the WWH wrote it. Next time I see her, I am giving her a big hug and a “Thank You!” I have opened up before on a thread in the political forum, so some already know. There are certain times of the year that a crash and burn happens. Christmas is one of them. Not always but more times than not. It helps me tremendously to have a bunch of jokesters to carrying on with. Thank you all!

😢 Watching someone you love, that has fought so hard to beat addiction, throw everything away and sink back into a life that will most likely lead to jail or death, is one of the hardest things you will ever do. You want to help them back to a clean and sober life but you realize by doing this, as you have so many times before, will now just be enabling them because it will show them that you will always be there to bail them out. You want to grab and shake them and say "What are you doing?!?!" But, at some point you realize that it would'nt make a difference. So you sit back and watch the tragedy unfold, as if you are watching a movie. Feeling helpless to stop it, feeling like you haven't done enough to help, even though you know only the addict can help themselves.

Loving a drug addict or an active alcoholic is the hardest thing you will ever have to go through. I have friends and family who have gone through this battle.
Battling a drug and/or an alcohol addiction is a beast for the person addicted and the ones who love them. So l am asking you to stand with me in prayer for every family member and friend who has lost their battle with drugs and alcohol and those who continue to conquer it!

...Yes,there is a Santa !:)!004.JPG

Everyone should remember Christmas is not about you getting lots of presents. It's all about me getting lots of presents :icon_king::dog::dog::icon_santa:
Actually, my dogs seem pretty inept at wrapping. And they don't have any money as far as I know :D
It actually snowed a few flakes last night. Barely dusted things.

Bill, here is some of the story behind that famous duet.

I will think of something but it probably won’t be wrapped. LOL

I just want to say Tom is is a great Christmas present.
