NO rim fire guns i use a 223,257,222,243,308,12 gauge,20 gauge

Always wanted a 243. Way back when I read of some hunters taking down lions with them. Whole article in Field and Stream discussing that.
Also would like a 270. But I would love a Sharps buffalo rifle. Shiloh Arms makes them now and the parts will interchange with originals. Those buffalo rifles are one of the most beautiful rifles ever made, I think.

always just used a 22 for deer back in Texas. Those white tail drop just as good with a head shot and the ranches where far to big for any game warden to get a hair up theirass. Heck we took about 60 deer a year back then, never even heard of a hunting permit until I got to the city for university. One of my class mates said he needed to stop and get his hunting permit, first thing crossed my mind was to ask him if he was born and raised in the city, he was.

Later found out that a hunting permit was actually required. Very small town was about the closest thing to us, and the local sheriff was also the school history teacher and his side arm was a two shot 45. But he always had his M1 Grand at his side, in class in the classroom gun rack, in his truck, where ever.

When was the last time you heard of a classroom gun rack. Man that was a while ago, but we had bush cats and other odd ends that would give you a go.

I remember when I was in the 6th class, the neighbouring ranch got some new owners, only 4,000 acres and they where sort of just hobby ranching, city folk, nothing serious. Their boy Nathan came to school, and he was told on because he did not bring a gun to school. Bus only dropped you off at the head of the dirt road, still had a good hour before you walked home. History teacher asked me if I would walk him home and pick him up every day until he got him self a gun. Man his parents where sofa king confused, got him a single action 22 mag. We all thought it was really cool of course, but he was only about 20 feet worth a heck with it.

Never heard of a classroom gunrack but it was common for kids to bring their guns in a pickup rack.
I don't care for rimfires. I do have a .22 .Montgomery Ward .22 bolt action. Lost the five shot clip. When we left Colorado I traded my bronco saddle for the .22 cause we left our horses with my brother. That was a high pommel beautiful saddle. Wish I had kept it.
Down here these hillbilly types will still take a deer when they want meat and I see no problem with that.
Getting tired of of the constant fees, regulations.
What area of Texas you grow up in? My dad was born outside of Lubbock. So I am prone to exaggeration at times;)

Folks,

With the colder weather here I picked up some oatmeal. For those who enjoy it for breakfast here's a few ideas to try.

Bill, I used to eat uncooked Quaker oats lol. I like maple syrup flavor. Bananas are for corn flakes.

HPB,

Looks like that's something we have in common. In a hurry for school pour out a bowl of oats add some milk and brown sugar and that was breakfast more times than not....:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

Oddjob,

Glad to see you back on board...what you been up to?

Lots of travelling Bill, just getting ready to hang this post up and then I am done for good.

Ill be the first to say I understand proper conservation and distribution of natural resources; but I sure do not understand or agree with it when it comes to families, just makes no sense at all to me. Back in the day they estimated something like 80,000 white tail per registered hunter in Texas, and that was with something close to 2,000,000 hunters. The hell do I need someone saying how many I can take in the year, not like I am making free steak sandwiches and shipping it to Africa because they are supposively way to poor to feed them selves even though they have more bush meat than us.

Besides on all our ranches combined in just Texas and Mexico alone it hits just over 90,000 acres, that bush meat is born and raised on our land under our food.

Now fishing, well heck if you do not know how to fish then you should not eat fish, game agents need to be in the water checking vessels and not on some jetti or beach checking family folk who either just want to eat or just have a good time. Back around 99 I was on leave and went fishing back in Texas. Just from land, there was several other doing the same. 2 agents come up and start checking peoples permits. One was checking the fella near me about 15 feet away as I was bring in a decent red around 27 inches. Agent tells me to just hold on to it and he would be with me soon enough.

I tossed it back and he flipped out. Asked me why I did that, he needed to measure it. I told him then perhaps he should be fishing but I was not here for him. He then checked my ID and permit, and poorly attempted to express to me exactly how small his pecker was and how large in ego was. Even his partner was giving him the stink eye over catch and release.

Just do not see point in messing with folks feeding their families, government could save some good money instead of handing out WIC or welfare if they would just point folks in the direction of bush meat. .

Anyway, our ranches where near Junction, Del Rio, and on both sides of Eagle Pass. Near those areas not in them, just was the closest places to us. Spent my times between those ranches mostly. School was in Junction though, tiny place back then with four classroom for 1st through 12th grade. School shuts down during harvest or calving, if your family had other ranches elsewhere you got off to help there as well.

It was the good ole days, back when PC was just not invented. Pretty sure back then the funny farm was still open to, but that place long shut down around the late 90s, guess maybe a few where still open up until the point I left country, but gone out of country nearly 19 years and get back I am certain all funny farms are closed now, cause these blither troll apes are out in numbers. Good folk have to pay for a hunting and fishing permit, but all them folks that where inn them funny farms do not have to pay anything and they get the same rights as us.

Be nice when things start trending like identifying as a bird and they start jumping off high places in mass numbers, maybe some ship anchors too or ballistic gell.

Welcome back Oddjob :notworthy: You said last time your were hanging it up, then a friend in Washington asked for a favor, is he still your friend and did he retire too ? Nice to see the group is getting back together, now if we could only hog tie ARC . :laughing7:

We lived in a small town outside the capital city and everyone that had a pick up had a gun rack. Was a normal scene to see pick ups parked in our high school parking lot with the gun racks full of rifles and shotguns. School shootings were unheard of back then.

Tom, years ago I had problems with a pinched nerve in my shoulder. I bought one of those Dr.Ho's devices. The thing really works, ( at least it does for me ). But you have to be careful on what setting you place it. I figured I would put it on the highest. It was all I could do to move my arm to shut the device off. It was frightening as to what it causes your muscles to do and you can't control it. Make a nice torture device ! But, as I said, it worked wonders on my pinched nerve once I read the instructions and set the control accordingly.
