Good Times .:icon_thumleft:

I worked 60+ hours a week to try and get us to a point that we could enjoy retirement. Then my dad passed away and it was like hitting a lottery. It was sad as I would have given all of it and anything else to have my parents back. Having money did NOT guantee happiness. Everything has been put into our kids names so as to take a little stress off them for the future. We live very conservatively also.

The same is being done with my Grandparents. It goes to my Son in a type of trust. I'm very happy about that!!! I have no clue of an amount, just glad he has something for later for sure. My wife and I have pretty done whatever we wanted within reason. We still want to see some of the country together, but I'd much rather have it locked for him. I also keep trying to tell family, quit buying my wife and I gifts for birthdays and holidays, put it in an account for our Son, that stuff will be gone or out of date in a couple of years. Plus, we don't need much! I worry about his future the most!! And he has more toys than he knows what to do with, he doesn't even play with most of them. So, much money wasted on that stuff.

And on the coins........We were very lucky!!!! I had an older mentor, that taught me watches, coins and jewelry...I knew him for years and spent a lot of time hanging out in his shop, going to shows, and auctions with him. When he got sick he asked me to help with the shop since I was trusted more than his own kids. When he passed his wife gave me the chance to buy whatever I wanted first, she even held stuff until I could pay for it. Along the way, I took over the customer base, and location. I had to change the name. This was in 2007.....Well? within the next year, Gold and silver shot through the roof!!! People were turning it in like crazy!!! We couldn't buy it fast enough and turn to the refiners for profit. Lines of people!!!! I had to borrow money daily to keep up with the lines. Along, the way at that time I was able to build a massive coin and watch collection. Most of it's gone but we picked at it for years. That's how we came into that. Pure luck, and right place at the right time. The most money I ever made in my life. It was short lived, had 2 bad partners in that time, and we had to close it to get away from the last partners reputation, that and I had started drinking which didn't help, I was running the place drunk or hungover.. In a way, plus we weren't completely sure what all he was into or doing, he was also doing side deals with customers so that I would get cut out.and he wouldn't have to split profit or rent. I had a little idea.......Luckily we kept most of our stuff seperate and kept real good paperwork. Because he ended up arrested by the U.S Marshals and going to jail.

Anyhow, I'll talk about anything if you haven't noticed!!! :laughing7:

My dad was into coins big time, ( he was into everything bigtime ). Coins scare me because of the knock offs anymore. I recently bought a couple old Morgan silver dollars. Took me almost four weeks of trying to learn how to spot knock offs and try to learn all the different grades. I don't plan on making that a career.

I still have a box of "mistakes". Most of them were from trying to buy stuff fast and not checking them real thoroughly. Some of that stuff is tough! They are always finding a way to scam people. I've seen or bought a lot of fake stuff in that time. Gold and silver bars, rounds, coins, jewelry etc....There is so much to learn and remember that I don't believe any one person would be able to do it without years and years of practice, At that time I was getting real good at it because we were seeing so much stuff fast. But...I forgot a lot of it since then.

I understand collecting everything!!! :laughing7: I've had to thin it out over the past few years. I collected all kinds of junk, I mean "treasures". Even as far as collecting all the older 2 stroke race 4 wheelers. I had one in a living room in that dump house I mentioned. :laughing7: That sure made neighbors talk! It was restored and not dripping oil or anything, but still was talk for many people.:laughing7:

Ohhh and I've played with coins since I was a kid. I have all the grading books and still can't grade accurately. I can rough guess it but not good at it. When I bought I would play it safe. I would buy by sometimes a couple grades lower than I thought it was. Not to intentionally rip people off, but you also have to protect yourself. And it's just an offer, if it's out of your comfort zone or knowledge they have the option to shop it around. We found that most buyers weren't even paying what we were and we ended up with most of the stuff we offered on. If there is any doubt, leave it, there are plenty more out there to buy.

Yeh, coins scare me for sure. When my brother and I were little kids our parents got each of us a silver Morgan dollar each year when we went on vacation to California. I still have one of them around here, but not sure where. I use to race two and four stroke three wheelers. I got out just as the four wheelers starting coming in. Four wheelers made more sense ! I still have cinders in my shoulder from racing. I was sliding through a corner when the right rear rim sheared the three bolts and sent me tumbling half a dozen times. I LOVED the racing but was getting to old for the body to heal. Still have some of my bikes and three wheelers even though it has been years since they have been run. Such fond memories, and embarassing ones too like coming off a jump in front of the grandstand and I had to much speed and height and it came down on top of me. Still, I do miss it.

Sry to hear that! Ya I loved it!! The last time I was out I realized I was getting older, it hurt for days when I got home.:laughing7:

I also had a few 3 wheelers. The Honda 250r air and water cooled, and a T3 or Tecate 3. Those are blast and rarely keep the front wheels down.:laughing7:

I wanted to do go carts, but never got around to it.

I never raced go carts..I had a couple. One we took a 16h overhead valved, cast iron block tecumseh. Milled the head, polished the ports and I played around with that heavy motor. I raced a friend in a Ford ranger and could beat him to 55mph..It wouldn't go any faster!!! But It would get there real fast.

We also put an old chainsaw motor on one. It had no power at all, but once you got it rolling would fly!

I raced a 185s that had a 210 kit in it, also had a 250R. It was fast. The Tecate was a good one also. The guy who got me into three wheeler racing had a son who went out west to race and was picked up by the factory as a Full factory sponsor. He started with Honda and then went with Kawasaki because they were developing the Tecate. He ended up becoming National champ in two different classes while riding Tecate. One was either a 250 or 350 class and the other was "Unlimited". He was a National Champ for several years and then gradually went from riding to designing and R&d.

I had a friend who for a college project designed a go-kart. He put a Honda 750 on it. It was fast but due to lack of cooling, kept melting the engine. He stuck huge fans on it to finally help the overheating issue.

==========
Good morning Wrightdigger. Making a beer run are you ? Rolling on the floor.gif

My Son fell asleep around 10pm for once....But.......My wife and I have been staying up all night with him this past week.....So, we couldn't fall asleep and watched movies and posted in the forum.(since she reads and watches what I post) while finding and getting stuff organized for Ebay and the flea market,

Now, he will wake up in a few hours and we are going to want to sleep! hahaha We are all out of whack with our sleep schedules.

Boys, you are novelists. LOL

I can ramble all kinds of stuff, from truth to nonsense depending on the day!!!

I'll talk about or debate anything! This is one of my few connections to the outside world! Unless we set up at the fleamarket or a neighbor comes out. I think the neighbor is hiding though, I think I wore him out with talking?
