Folks,

Tripped over this short video showing the landscape in Madeira. Now I know why Tom chose it as his retirement spot.

Nice eh?!
You have the very hot area in the south (most population) and in the north with 1800 meters high mountains you have a very wet and rainy area.

But we still have much work with planning and organizing to move. Not so easy as it sounds, specially if you want to be self-sufficient... Clean water is also a problem.

An other problem is, what happen if the EU crashes one day? Will they throw foreigners out or take the land back they bought? How are other rules there like health insurance (I don´t like it to be forced to pay for it like in germany, specially because I don´t trust doctors and the entire pharma mafia....). Gosh...I do not longer want to pay for things I don´t want or like or that are not needed.
But it seems there is absolutly no place on this sh*t planet left where you can be complete self-sufficient and where you can be complete out of this sick systems who only want your money...

Tom,

Here's a video for installing a rainwater collection system. There's plenty more videos on the same topic.

Folks,

Here's another getaway spot that looks beautiful..... Vis, Croatia.

Wow.....its hot !! The last three days ive been tearing the cooling system off the engines in the boat. Its a big job that gets done every couple years. We disassemble, acid wash the heat exchangerr and components, and then reassemble with new gaskets and seals. The entire helm deck lifts up with hydraulic pistions to have access to the engine room.

photo-1040.webp my new office. Flat screen with sat TV, full galley with fridge, freezer, glass top range, and micrwave/convection.
photo-1039.webp my little break area. Folding settee table, leather couch converts to sleeping quarter. Nice spot for lunch and the news. Man I love this boat. The whole interior is leather and book matched teak panels. The floor is tounge and groove teak and holly. Counter tops are corian. Ice cold AC, full bath and shower, and 2 cabins. Shes a dreamer !! The amount of money my boss has saved with tax cuts has helped me have a more secure job. The more vehicles and vessel's they buy the busier I am keeping everything clean and in working order, and.........the more trips and adventures we go on.

Bart,

Great looking set up you've got for yourself.

Sure beat being stuck behing a desk.

Folks,

drinking rain water?? With all that Aluminum and Barium oxide and other :censored: in it? NO WAY!

A ground water resource is needed - natural filtered :icon_thumright:

Also the area we want to go has not much rain. All the water at Madeira comes from the mountains where it is indeed raining!
Water is a big problem there, specially for the south area.

...

you know what, I have made a world map years ago and painted all no go areas in red. Muslim countries, those with wars or other problems, to much mixed cultures which causes always problems, the north is too cold etc. etc. and there was not much left!

This planet is an entire :censored: hole! :laughing7: ...and it is simply a SHAME that we have to flee from our own country before we get too old or before it is too late....

...

too close to Bosnia and Serbia! And I have a "problem" with the people from that entire area. From those I know and who live now in Germany, I can say they are not nice at all...
The entire area down to turkey and greece is simply a powder keg and it needs just a spark for a new war. Also, what do you think is going on there when the Euro crashes or we get a world wide banking crash and what are they doing than to germans who live there?! :icon_scratch:

There are only 300.000 people on Madeira and most younger people leave it. Not much different ethnics or different religions that causes problems. And the people there are simply nice!!
It belongs to Portugal but the Madeiran people are much much different in character as the Portuguese :icon_thumright:

Tom,

So if the problem with Madeira is limited water supply do a compromise and build your place at the base of a mountain in the rainy section and use well water.....just watch out for mudslides though....:laughing9::laughing9::laughing9:

Bill,

thats exactly what we have in mind. But with two more containers. They are quite cheap. You can get one between 3 to 5.000 Euros and most work can be done by our self.

an other option are wood houses. A company in Poland build them for cheap. 150 square meters as example for 25.000 euros. But I don´t real know the quality yet.

Drilling a well inside this volcano stone can´t be such expensive.
We have to look in which area we can get enough land for a good price. We need a lot to grown our own food etc. Some weeks ago there was land to by for 65.000 Euros (25.000 square meters). The problem is, we have to get something like this WHEN we say OK, let´s move now :hello2:

And if everything goes wrong, THIS is my last option! Living nude in a cave together with this brunette girl as a Hippie at Gomorra... ehm I mean Gomera :laughing7:
