I made the hardtack, and now I know why they are called "sheet iron crackers,: or "teeth dullers". But surprisingly, I like them. I actually would eat them again on a hike or something.

Gotta try stuff , I guess.
Been years ...But I'd soak hardtack in my coffee today if I had to eat it again.
During the civil war there was "old stock" hardtack distributed in at least some areas. Sorry I don't recall where from. It might have been from the Mexican American war.
