Oh !... and I know nothing about "mental detecting".

:)... :P

Sorry AARC
You and others may be able to help. I've done my share also along with others here. If we can help with a certain machine or soil, ground balance, tones or whatever, hopefully we can help.

I'm mental...:laughing7: Welcome, bud!

I received my first metal detector today and it's been raining all day. So I took some change and went out to the shed and threw it on the ground and went to practicing. Guess what I found... a nail. ( laughs ) At least it should be easy digging tomorrow with all of the wet ground. Do the metal detectors react differently on wet ground?

It was time consuming, but I restored about 28 iron canister balls today. Twelve are pictured.

Wet ground, especially saturated ground is best. You will hear signals you've never heard before in ground that has been rained on. I don't know the science behind it, but it works. But don't let this discourage you from metal detecting when it's dry. By all means, detect in all kinds of weather. You'll hear different things in different situations.

WD, last time i attempted to bump something, a keg...i fell over board. With the keg.

Yes, moisture in the ground does make a difference. It usually helps in especially low mineralization soil. You will hear the high tones( which are good targets better). You also can run a lower disc. after a good rain or shower. It also depends on the machine and settings as well as the coil you are running.

What rook said.:laughing7: I still don't know what half of the knobs do on my detector. All I know is if I fiddle with this one, or monkey with that one, I find stuff. That's all that matters to me!
