questions about the Lost Dutchman

Rebel,

Welcome, and as Bill said, Waltz hand cobbled the ore that came from his mine before bringing it home. His ore is described as being about 1/3rd gold. Here is a pic of a match safe made from his ore:

If the LDM had any tailings to speak of, it would have been found a loooooooooooong time ago.

Here is the description of the ore in his mine:

18" vein of rose and white quartz shot through with gold, and 8" soft gray tuff with visible gold.

Mike

That's a very nice piece of history! Thanks for showing!

I wasn't sure were else to ask this question. I have looked at pictures of the matchbox with the "Dutchman ore" a hundred times and have wondered how this was created. Is that a very, very thin
Slice of quartz that was cut with a saw and attached?? I am fasinated with how this may have been created. Any experts out their?
Bill

Rock saw and a whole lot of polishing. Lapidarists have been doing it since way before Jesus was a baby.

Leaf gold is micro thin. Profiles of the stone. Usually, epoxy in the sample can be dissolved by solvents.
Have a professional take a look at it.
