PVC Cashes

I wasn't trying to boast, and no offence taken, I was just trying to find some leads of lost or know pvc caches.
And its not really a secret. The post just turned into 20 questions lol

? Gold does not smell;

? ?I was told once, Gold does Not Taste Either.

? An Auctioneer once told me to test Unmarked gold,
put the tip of your tongue against it.
? If you get a Bitter Taste, its Plated.

? ?Don't know if it's true,
? He was getting ready to put an unmarked (Gold?) ring up for bid at the time.
I havn't taken the time to taste a Plated Ring? :D
? ?Don't know if I want to.

OK. Since you are not trying to boast, and it's not really a secret, and no one has directly asked yet, I'll bite. What is the method, technique and equipment you use to find PVC caches?

its his blood hound and yes they do have extremely sensitive noses this would be an easy task if you trained them on the scent of pvc, tammahawk

Yes it's a bloodhound!!! And I'm used to people not believing me till they see it. Mid he could probably help out near that old well

Go Yogi!

How about a photo of Yogi working?

My Jack Russell Terrier is excellent only with finding other dogs messes to sniff.... like a fine brandy....

Well the pvc training has 1 drawback. Now he knows where all my sprinkler lines are!!!!!

He would have to be able to sniff through up to 10' of water, or wait until I drain it. How well does he take to confined spaces? We could lower him down with a rope and pulley. I seriously doubt, however, that PVC has ever been anywhere near this well. It's too old and remote. If anything was dumped in it or buried near it I imagine whoever buried it would have used the old fashioned method of heavy iron box or some other metal container, perhaps glass. Your picture also raises a question: Did you train your hound by using your sprinkler system? If so, he might be sniffing for water instead of PVC. Still a valuable skill, but different than hunting paper money and non-metal treasure.

Have you tried paper money yet? I think I'd let him have a go at that since you have the metal part mostly covered with a detector. Bummer about the sprinkler lines!!

I worked him on cash a few times when he was young and it wasn't a problem. Just for fun one day in downtown Denver I gave him some bill's to smell, and he was trying to put his nose and paw's in stranger's pocket's LOL Scared the hell out of a few people.

Interesting topic....recently I executed a search warrant on a guys property (a million dollar property in Scottsdale, AZ). We were hopping to find cash (lots of cash) and we took at stab at the back yard. It was large back yard with two large dogs, and with the exception of a pool.....a lot of dirt. I used my MXT for awhile looking in areas that had digging marks. Found some 7-up cans, but that was about it. I even had a currency dog (only two in AZ and they belong to Customs) come up and look for cash. The dog hit strongly in the house where we found about $22,000 (we are missing about 1 million). Anyway, while searching with the metal detector, the Scottsdale detective that I was working with, said that several years ago, people would use military ammo boxes to bury cash in; but these days, they use large PVC pipes with caps on both ends to seal the treasure. So, a metal detector is useless with PVC, unless they keep some gold coins in there???? Maybe we could have used your dog??? In the end, I think our SUBJECT spent the money on hookers and gambling (what a country we live in).

I wanted to buy 2 tubes to store fishing rods in, but changed my mind when I saw the prices. I thought maybe the tubes artists store their work in was the way to go, but they were just as expensive. I ended up buying a 2" X 10' length of schedule 40 PVC and cutting it in half. On each length I cemented caps on one end and a male connector on the other, and bought two threaded caps. I then used plastic primer and painted them with a can of flat black enamel. Works great and was a lot cheaper than one of the "made for" tubes. As I was purchasing the parts I was thinking about ways to use PVC to store valuables. The smaller diameters would work OK, depending on what you were caching, but the size limits you. For the bigger things I concluded that the best PCV parts to use were the large diameter fittings, like clean-outs and T-connectors. You can get those in diameters of 6" and larger, so the openings are large enough to store pistols and the like, plus you can get your hands inside. You can get close to the volume of wall safes that way, plus you can expand it out by adding lengths of pipe to the connectors. The downside is that those large diameter fittings really jump up in price. If you have a lot of stuff to bury you would be left with the same problem Reagan had with the MX missile--Dense Pack or Widely Spaced Basing. You could use a lot of smaller tubes in short lengths and bury them all near each other (risking the whole cach being found), or spread them out (the risk being that you forget where you buried them).

Dano91,
Congratulations on your ingenuity. I know you will be successful, as a good TH buddy of mine did the same thing last year and has done very well. The spanish explorers used to feed their dogs out of gold and silver bowls and used them to locate ore bodies. Several years ago I read about a guy in Florida who trained his dog to smell silver. He would take him to the local parks and let him work. As far as where to use your dog, watch the local papers for major drug busts and contact the property owners or the local constabulary and work out a deal. Best of luck to you!
PS You might also want to train him on ABS plastic as some pipe stashes are made of this too.

I use both ABS and PVC he doesn't have a problem with either one.I've had several people tell me about court records and such, but haven't seen any lately.

I'm a newbie. What's PVC? I hope I'm not the only one in the dark.

Pre-ventricular contraction, a heart condition.

PVC- Pipes used for drain fields and ventilation in buildings. Ask questions about PVC at your local hardware store.
