I guess you can tell I'm bored. When I can't go detecting, I kill people.....oops I mean I go a little off colour. So whats second best to detecting except my other half (have to say that ;)) & fishing - its pulling out old finds of course. I hope I'm not the only one that sorts, categorises, re-categorises, stares at & relive the good old days when finds were everywhere ::)

Following the trend in this best finds section, I'm going to ask you to post your COMPLETE collection of lead toys/objects. UPDATED - All single toys now count (didn't realise these were so rare). Now I hope this will create some interest as I don't think its been done yet ???

Looking through these takes me back to being a kiddie detectorist & my roots of detecting. ie the back & front yards/gardens of some friends 1930s houses. I found a tons of coins as well.

Most of the better ones are from those gardens & all the rest which are broken in the ploughed fields.

NOW GET SORTING ;D (and don't forget to wash your hands after touching those dangerous lead figures) ::)

Are any of these considered very valuable? A have a few of the older ones. Cowboy, Indian, some soldiers that look like they are from France, two on horseback with the narrow, oblong bases. Paint is good on a few. Also have three bears that look exactly the same except for their descending size. I will post a pic of them tomorrow.

These are all trashed, but I found them on a Island in the Adirondacks...

This is only the second ever lead toy I have recovered, the first was a kneeling Indian girl, I will have to dig her out of the misc box to photo her. This one is a soldier of some sort.

Found this lead horse figurine this season. No idea on who made it or when but it does seem to have a hole in the center top of it's back - almost like a merry-go-round horse.

LOL I sold every one of them last Saturday. A few of the "newer" ones were Barclay and Brittans.

Thanks for joining what has been one of my most popular threads, I never would have guessed when I started it :icon_thumright:

I was trying out my new detector this afternoon just before going in to work and found another metal soldier. This one's bigger than my others - over 2" tall and weighs a couple ounces.

No idea of the age - maybe in the 40's=50's or so.

This one is a RARE Barclay (made in New Jersey) Number B43 Japanese Soldier, Charging with Rifle, made in 1937, before the war. In mint condition it would be worth over $120.00 + in today's collecting market. Great find, Sub 8-)

This is my favorite lead toy find. Never could ID it.
Unfortunately, it got lost in the move several years back .. Glad I had a photo of it!

Good Thread Crusader, I like your collectio, esp. the airplane which could have easily been broke, good save.

I really like finding old toys, this thread has shed some light on just how hard it is to find them. With many of the known relic hunters (over here) just having one, or none.

Like some others I only have one, and it is broke too, a rabbit I got this year, the pig doesn't count as he is copper / brass, also found this year. For some perspective for me it has been more than 50 colonial copper coins to one old toy ?
