I guess you can tell I'm bored. When I can't go detecting, I kill people.....oops I mean I go a little off colour. So whats second best to detecting except my other half (have to say that ;)) & fishing - its pulling out old finds of course. I hope I'm not the only one that sorts, categorises, re-categorises, stares at & relive the good old days when finds were everywhere ::)

Following the trend in this best finds section, I'm going to ask you to post your COMPLETE collection of lead toys/objects. UPDATED - All single toys now count (didn't realise these were so rare). Now I hope this will create some interest as I don't think its been done yet ???

Looking through these takes me back to being a kiddie detectorist & my roots of detecting. ie the back & front yards/gardens of some friends 1930s houses. I found a tons of coins as well.

Most of the better ones are from those gardens & all the rest which are broken in the ploughed fields.

NOW GET SORTING ;D (and don't forget to wash your hands after touching those dangerous lead figures) ::)

Crusader..I;ve been lucky and fortunate enough to have found a bunch of lead soldiers the last couple of years. Unfortunately none of them are completely whole...that one complete one has eluded me thus far, but I am thrilled at what I have been able to find of them so far.

So far, I have only one Lead Soldier that was beheaded. My camera is down but I will post a nice photo of the poor fella in the near future.

Any questions please ask

Looks like a good start, clearly looking in the right places. The chicken is nice.

A very cool thread. Thanks for starting this one, Cru!

Here's my one and only.

He does look sad for himself, maybe a farmer character??

Silly question, is the two engined plane a Blenheim bomber? Looks 1930's-ish. All of it's great, I might try and post my paltry collection, only dug a few intact WW1 soldiers.

Great older post, glad it's back up. I'll post mine tomorrow. Keep posting pics, no matter the qty. All of it is nice to see.

no idea which plane :dontknow:

Awesome lead toy collections :icon_thumright:

In particular I like the plane. I think curbdiggercarl57 is right on the Blenheim bomber ID. I would say MK IV as the MK I had a shorter nose.

I don't have many lead toys, but did find a Curtiss P40 warhawk.

OK, here are mine, including the proverbial horses a$$. Some of these may not be lead, but other cast metals.

Nice collection :icon_thumright: What's the disk thingy? Is it a child's tea set plate?

You got it! It is a child's tea set plate. I think it is pewter. It still shows the casting spru along the edge, but there are no makers marks. I found it at an old meeting house, right next to a 1700's, handmade, silver plated, 2 piece spoon.

Hello MEinWV (me in west virginia?). This sure looks like a tin-lead (pewter) childs plate (don't know about the tea). I can't be sure (do you have a larger photo, send it to me) but it appears to be 17th century (not 1700's which is 18th century). I have found a few here in Holland. It is in fine condition, so to see.

O.K. I'll bite. I have more in some other box located in the dreaded pile. Great idea Cru for starting this thread. I like everybody's collection here.
Dave.
