I guess you can tell I'm bored. When I can't go detecting, I kill people.....oops I mean I go a little off colour. So whats second best to detecting except my other half (have to say that ;)) & fishing - its pulling out old finds of course. I hope I'm not the only one that sorts, categorises, re-categorises, stares at & relive the good old days when finds were everywhere ::)

Following the trend in this best finds section, I'm going to ask you to post your COMPLETE collection of lead toys/objects. UPDATED - All single toys now count (didn't realise these were so rare). Now I hope this will create some interest as I don't think its been done yet ???

Looking through these takes me back to being a kiddie detectorist & my roots of detecting. ie the back & front yards/gardens of some friends 1930s houses. I found a tons of coins as well.

Most of the better ones are from those gardens & all the rest which are broken in the ploughed fields.

NOW GET SORTING ;D (and don't forget to wash your hands after touching those dangerous lead figures) ::)

I found this a few years ago. Don't know if it qualifies as a toy but it's lead nonetheless. Actually I don't know what it is, maybe a good luck charm?

I love this post. I need to get permisson to detect my old Jr High. We cast many lead soldiers in shop back in the 80's, and I'm pretty sure they'd been using the same molds since Christ was a corpral. Thanks for the pictures.

I dont have much of a collection, but this gave me a laugh when i pulled it out of the Thames

Great Topic idea! Impressed by all your toys!
I found a few:
Though not sure all qualify as 'toys' they may be. (the statuette, small anchor)
found what was thought to be the 'sidecar', then a week later found the second wheel. Enjoy & HH to all!

Hi Steelheadwill (what a name!)

The 5th photo, that is I could be a statue of Manneken-Pis ('Little Pissing Man') in Brussels near Grand Place.
You can buy those statues everyplace in Brussels. Wrong hand used, but who knows.

Thanks for posting Woody50,
I like the statuette even more as it is not an exact copy, therefore probably not your average tourists trinket, he sports a hat,(Sign of Liberty?) where the original doesn't, and as you stated, wrong hand used, I recognised the style when I dug the item, but knew it was significantly different than the original. Now it may be the only example of this type/issue. I am Very pleased to have recovered him.
I have always admired the Mannekin Pis, since 1618 he has been performing in Brussels,(other than the several times he was stolen) he is costumed on a regular basis, and at those times, Unique Belgian ales flow, rather than water.

The original is only 24" tall.
For a little boy, he sports quite a set of abdominals :laughing7:

This is a good thread and cru you have quite a collection! Not sure if my toys are lead or not. These were all found in the side yard of one home I detected that dated to around 1900.

looks good - like the dog & rabbit

What a great thread! Being buried under a few feet of snow gives me plenty of time to explore other sections of this wonderful website and I came across this one. Very cool!

I started detecting in May of this year and found a few lead figurines. Haven't found any markings on them so I don't have a clue to their age or who made them.

(All found in the same area)

Here are some that I have found. I really thought that they were a lot more common. I have some more but need to locate them.

I was trying out my new detector this afternoon just before going in to work and found another metal soldier. This one's bigger than my others - over 2" tall and weighs a couple ounces.

No idea of the age - maybe in the 40's=50's or so.
