Had this a while back, think it's a pipe tamper/cleaner. Do any pipe smokers out there know ?.

I can show you what a pastry jigger looks like size wise from my own finds (not google) if you like. This find is too small to be a jigger, and also obviously complete with nothing broken off. If I am wrong I will give you the cross shaped copper pilgrims badge you id a while back. Can't say fairer than that.CRUSADER said:I would bet on this no probsrobfinds said:Want to bet ?.CRUSADER said:Its the end of a pastry jigger.
I didn't need to google it. I have found a few. I googled the picture because many on here like to see a picture, I never used to do this when IDing, but many do this in the 'What is it' section.robfinds said:I can show you what a pastry jigger looks like size wise from my own finds (not google) if you like. Only having a laugh Crusader no worries. If you look at your picture you can see that it does not taper down along it's length towards the jigger. Also yours is very uniform (machine made). When I posted this article I said that I thought it was a pipe tamper, somewhere over the years iv'e seen such. I can't for the life of me remember where !. Seen a lot and read a lot in 25 years.CRUSADER said:I didn't need to google it. I have found a few. I understand what your saying, but they come in many different sizes & I have found a number of items that I was 'sure' didn't have breaks due to no scarring etc & later found it to be untrue. However, if your sure, then I can't convince you.

I can see what you mean Crusader but look closely at the object. The top on my find would be over designed for marking pastry, what's the reason for it's horn like ends ?. Also as you say some ends can look undamaged , but this really is .CRUSADER said:robfinds said:Only having a laugh Crusader no worries. I just went for a hunt through my stuff, I must have tossed the others I had, but I have this similar one:

Tamper v Jigger, Let's call it a Tigger and be done with it, life's to shortCRUSADER said:IronSpike said:On the 'horn design'. Believe it's made to keep the ridged top a flat piece, but then the added metal is in order to achieve a good sturdy grip. Looks like it would fit good between two fingers.
I thought that as well, also thought it would scrap off the pie crust from around the bowl. having never used one, I'm only guessing. we need a pastry expert. lol

Hey Robert, thanks for the photo. Yes I can now see that the size is right, it looks just about like Crusaders!, Ivan Salis things so also, so I have to say it could be. I have to look around and find mine, maybe I can determine it better then. These are also pipe cleaners/stampers...robfinds said:Hello Woody, this is a better picture, the length is just under 2 and a half inches as shown on the first picture.

Not so fast Cru the plot thickens !. Just had an email from Paul Murawski of valued history. He's the guy that wrote "Benet's Artifacts of England & the United Kingdom current values. He thinks it may be a Roman tile cutter. He gave me an ebay item number to look at 120417400992 it certainly looks the same.CRUSADER said:ivan salis said:I would say yes its the right size -- they vary a bit in size and shape by the owners whim --like I said before giving up the foul habit --I was a pipe smoker from 13 to 45 years of age --so thats what 32 years --I've seen many differant kinds of pipes and smolkng items to go with them -- from long stemmed clay church warden pipes to german student pipes to wooden modern brair bowls --to mercheem pipes from turkey --- traveling all over as I did I saw many differant types and styles from many differant cultures as well.
