Blindbowman mi amigo sometimes I suspect you are having fun toying with us poor treasure hunters here on T-net. Now you have linked these pesky danged stones to our old hero Pegleg Smith? I do know a tiny bit on old frontiersman Smith, who was well known as a horse thief and champion liar, and the location of most of his adventures are not within Arizona. He did in fact pass through Arizona on more than one occasion, traveling to and from California.

My question for you Blindbowman is this:

Why should Pegleg Smith be involved here, when we have a perfectly good legend and fantastic lost mine already associated with him in southern California? There is even a Pegleg Smith Liars Contest that at least used to be held every year. From what I could tell Smith was possibly illiterate, which would make the Spanish parts of the inscriptions pretty tough for him to do. Why do you link Pegleg Smith to these stone "maps" at all? I am baffled at this leap of logic.

I have looked at the good photos of the stones posted online, and cannot for the life of me see a date of "1435" but then of course my eyesight up close is not good. (Far away is another matter.) Are you sure you can see that there? Please point it out for my poor eyes cannot locate it? Thank you in advance,

I would say that "stumbled" pretty much describes bowman's history on this site. All of this activity on his part....has got to leave a bruise. And he thought it was going to be a cakewalk.
