What the heck is this? What does this mean? A Scottish Rite Freemason medal?? Knights of the Golden Circle? Property it was found in is traditionally Civil War era. On the back is "Whitehead and Hoag Newark N.J. They started business in 1892. Without giving specifics, rumors about links of Civil War era freemasonry and the property were told to me. But this piece is newer, at least 1892 and forward. Secretive history about this kind of stuff. Should I go back and bury it?? Is this medal rare? Was it given to freemasons casually or did they have strict issuance??
