Hopefully a German member can help out because my German is worse than the guy in "inglorious basterds" who got shot for his lousy German, but apparently it was minted in Furth (area in germany), and is made of brass.

hmmm, what's really interesting (besides this being one of the coolest finds lately) is the apparent difference in the shields, and what chipveres pointed out, that the shield may have the Christian fish effigy incorporated into it! From what I understand, this effigy was for a long period of time a "secret" symbol to identify your faith. It may be corrosion or dirt so let us know?

My German is spot on. I will help for a bit, but I will bow out when this thread explodes with theories of how the Germans got to Canada in the 1600s...

Rechenpfennige Messing Rechenpfennig
Grade: sehr schön-vorzüglich | Abbreviations
Messing Rechenpfennig o.J. Fürth. Vier gekrönte Wappen ins Kreuz gestellt / stehender Krieger mit Speer und Schild, VOLL MVTH. 22 mm, 1,16 g.

Brass Jeton
Grade: very beautiful and exquisite
Brass Jeton from Fürth (Bavaria). Four crowned crests set in the form of a cross / standing warrior with spear and shield. 22mm. 1.16 g.

With the same design on the reverse, you are looking at the same origin and time frame (18th c.) Trouble is, there are thousands and thousands of Jetons out there, so it is a needle in a haystack.

P.S.--the word "Land" may actually be the word "Tand" (a beautiful but valueless thing)--i.e. a Jeton. From what I've read, sometimes this word actually appeared in the legend of the tokens.

Its not in my Jetton book.

There are elements of this on different Jettons:

ie. the tree is popular from the late 18th C onwards. 'Voll Muth' was used on other reverses but between 1815-55.

Das Land is used but in this combo 'Lust Baut - Das Land' (first bit not matching yours)

The letters across the middle (ish) are RE. PF. (shortening of Rechenpfennig) - Which would make it German.
The very bottom letters might help on a search, what are they?

So its a 1790s-1820s German Jetton which by the way turn up all over the world.

OK, that helps I think:
Its most likely the Medallist/Jeton maker Iohann Reich in Nuremberg, Germany. He operated between 1758-1815. He made many Jetons in many different styles including: English, French,Prussian, German etc...
This style I would still date at circa 1790s.
