Oak Island Question

Oak Island Question...

I moved ya from GENERAL DISCUSSION over to OAK ISLAND for more exposure.

NOTE: Forum GENERAL DISCUSSION contains a wide variety of topics, including, treasure hunting, metal detecting, prospecting, relic hunting - even antique hunting. A great place to meet other treasure hunters!

To put it simply the search started (alledgedly)because 3 roaming youths noticed a depression over which an old block and tackle hung and thought it might be a place where treasure was buried.

That's it, one spot and one spot only that was thought to be a treasure site (according to the story), nothing else.

Suggesting the treasure is anywhere then away from the spot first suspected of containing a treasure is pure speculation built totally on later invention.

The oak island sage is like folks looking for the Loch Ness "monster". Or better yet a "bigfoot". Some folks swear to the treasure on oak island, Loch Ness monster and bigfoot. On the 2nd two mentioned does anybody realize the population of a "species" needed to survive to today...? That alone would leave out either without SOMETHING been found or realized. That is just a common biological fact here on little planet earth.

First, let's ask what anyone is searching for on Oak Island? They don't know. So . . . why assume some unknown treasure is there rather than anywhere else?

TV hype. Nothing else. 27 groups have sifted the island and, unless someone was smart and followed the "Shush Rule", nothing has been found. Guess why.

There was a reason. The story was told from the start that the first main searchers had obtained some treasure map that they equated to being for Oak Island. The story got changed later.

Basically they dug at the place the copy of their Spanish treasure map seemed to mark.

But nothing was there.

Hence to keep the money from investors coming in they could not longer promote they had a real treasure map for a treasure on Oak Island because the map then just proved they weren't looking on the right island.

The detail was then removed which is why the story as told now is full of obvious inconsistencies.

If you are wondering the detail of the search being caused by a treasure map appear published up until the the early 1970s. After that, this detail was totally suppressed by those running the search concession when the story was given to visitors/researchers/jounalists/reporters who went to the island so the money would keep coming in.

And before anyone jumps in and goes BUT BUT BUT, yes they know about it.

The show's own researcher Doug Crowell published some of his research into it.

However you might realise now that he has never raised his research or the historical records about it in the War Room for the audience outside the inner circle to learn about.

You might ask yourself why........

But something WAS there.

Let's try some logic.

If you had dug ANYWHERE ELSE on that island, the dirt would have been compacted the same as all the dirt around it, and the same as all the dirt under it. And as you dug there it would dawn on you there's nothing here, and you've been played.

Instead you've spotted a depression in the ground, start digging, and by golly the DIRT IS LOOSE. Whether or not it's a filled in hole, shaft, or a sinkhole, you got to dig further.

If you hit a platform at 10, 20, 30 ft you know you got SOMETHING, and if you have, the compulsion to go deeper gets stronger.

Would the Onslow company have dug to 90 ft if there wasn't SOMETHING that made treasure a possibility?

So really what started it all was loose dirt.

I want one of those stoves for $12.

That's where you are wrong in your assumption that all the dirt would have the same compaction.
Then again digging from an armchair it might seem that way that all dirt is the same, as it's just dirt.

Yeah, unfortunately, well you've just been conned. It was never a secret about the treasure map and was known from the start. Don't think that small selection of contemporaneous articles are the extent of what is known or exists. It doesn't even scratch the surface. The famous 3 who were said to start the whole mystery weren't even the first searchers, others had been there before them.

You'll even find the detail still being retold: how the 3 went to where a block and rope was hanging over a cleared circular depression? It's the anomaly in the story.

What was there was not done in the past then as it had not been reforested: it was recent.

All that happened was the sentence was removed in the retelling that went 'and they knew they were in the correct spot that the treasure map seemed to mark as they could see where the previous searchers had been'.

You understand now? The story is about them relocating the previous search site.

The whole point is not so much it was always known what happened and that it was recorded.

It's that you can see with your own eye in black and white that the whole construct of 'Oak Island is an unsolvable mystery because nothing was ever recorded that said what happened' is just a plain lie that is being fed to you to keep things going there (ie the money coming in).

Are you saying whoever searched before the original 3, dug and then refilled the Money Pit, and placed logs every 10' on their way back up?

You understand there is a vast difference between what you are told now and what was recorded then? I mean here are of the reports telling you what happened and you go 'but that's not what I was told'.

And by the way, there was another '90 foot stone' in existence you aren't told about because it was said to have turned up during the search for the treasure on another island (which you weren't told about either now).

Oak Island was just one of a number of the islands searched there for the same treasure.

The point being why not look up yourself the contemporaneous sources instead of relying on what the TV show says?

Like I said mention of the treasure map is found being published still up until the early 1970s.

Ask yourself why you are never told about recorded occurrences like this:

Logs might or might not have ever been there. Same as the flood tunnels, and gold chain links, parchment paper etc etc.. Treasure might have already been found at that point or at any point afterwards and they didn't want to share it so kept it quite. Original 3 might have truly found it. Didn't want everyone to know so they played along in helping others search as a cover over the years. The Laginas do have a treasure map with an X marks the spot. Might not be the same as your referring to but... Your snip-it of an article could be about anything. Same as what the TV shows does, takes a little bit of info and turns it to where they want to go with it...Hopefully there is way more to your article that tells what or why they are there searching the area..
Sure some of it has probably been embellished over the years for many reasons. No one other then the Lagina's and their clan have made a profit off searching. No one knows what to believe out of any of the info that is out there at this point.. Some will says nothing was written about the early accounts of it, then someone finds something that does and then you get the whole well you can't believe everything your read.. That is why they just keep searching. It's more or less a history lesson now. Who was there, and what were they doing type thing.. Sadly in todays world they are not allowed to just dig up the whole island like you could have years ago. There are plenty of islands in the area as in 100's of them and some probably had some sort of treasure buried/left on it at some point for whatever reason. Boat was sinking, someone was after them, didn't want to share it, or whatever..

It was just that at the time (late 18th century) there was an already in circulation a lost treasure story involving a Spanish origin treasure map. The first searchers were following versions of that story.

Speaking with Doug Crowell about it he confirmed to me that they already suspected the first searchers had been following some pre existing story but could not (at the time of the communication) identify what it was.

Dan Blankenship did say it when he told others that it was a Spanish treasure he was looking for.

Of course nowadays no one ever really checks preferring to go on wild speculations of what might have happened there instead of just reading what was being said at the time the searches were going on.

“Now that we have dug an intricate pit with flood tunnels, platforms, and a cryptic stone to remind us why we dug the pit to hide the fabulous treasure, make sure nobody forgets the block and tackle hanging in the tree above it when we leave”.

Exactly... If you had a fabulous treasure to hide why the 100 or so ft. pit? Why the platforms or a cryptic stone if the flood tunnels prevented this happening? None of it makes sense... too many fairy tales and high hopes.

What do think of the idea that the original 3 actually found a caved-in sawpit? It would explain the necessity of a platform at 10 ft, and if old enough the sawdust could have composted.
