These missions not only had a religious purpose, but also served as agricultural, craft and educational teaching centers.

Recognized for their emphasis on education, the Jesuits founded colleges and schools in Chihuahua to educate both the indigenous and Spanish populations. These institutions not only provided religious education, but also taught a wide range of academic disciplines and contributed to the cultural development of the region.

Within this historical context, the temple of San Nicolás de la Joya emerges as a monument to the Jesuit work in Chihuahua. That crack in the wall sure looks scary, good everyone's safe after climbing to the 2nd floor, nice finds, that crunched up copper plate/object at bottom of photo (10th object) looks like something I found metal detecting a Toronto parking lot turf, could have been the copper plate of a church spire. I was almost going to throw mine except I noticed it was dense as copper. Tested with magnet and it wasn't iron, I kept it!
