Welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania (USA).

You didn't mention your state (or country) - but you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Until a member pipes in - you might have success browsing Forum > Metal Detecting Forum > Brands > Fisher Research Labs...

Try taking some coins and burying them in your backyard and then detecting them to see what kind of readings you get.

As Wayne said, you may have the sensitivity up too high. Another possibility is that there are mineral pockets underground that get broken up when you dig making them disappear. If you cut a plug and the signal disappears, I would remove another 2-3 inches of dirt. Sometimes when you remove the soil over the target, it also removes the halo created by the target. In many cases, it's the halo that triggered your machine in the first place.

Try digging signals that show fairly constant numbers with each swing..Do a search for F2 on here theres lots of tips. HH

Welcome from Louisiana!
