Need help with aging this beautiful peice

I wanted to find something decorative.... Finally I did.... In a big way. This won't thrill men like a civil war buckle would ... Lol ... But I'm in love with it. Backstory... My grandparents passed and I was detecting at their old property. Part of this was sticking out of the creek bed... There was like a landslide of tbe bank ... And there this was. My mom said as a kid she remembers them digging at tbe spike of this thing.



Then it was covered up... I guess it's been working its way out in recent years. There is a property in view of this thing, that was built in late 1800s and another even older than that. This didnt wash down from them, because it wouldn't had to go upstream... But maybe it was dumped. I've spent hours on it already .. It was like a huge barnacle... But the iron is so incredibly durable and non brittle... So given all that info can anyone give me an educated guess at the age?



I made Buddy sit in for size reference... Lol.. Not happy about being told to sit and stay

Also TBH and this is just IMO but if you have not ever done electrolysis before then really just dont worry about doing it or make sure you have someone there that has done it before.

OMG... I'd haul em out even if it gave me hemmroids , lol. It's like the ultimate Find to me.. Sturdy iron, beautiful .... Decorative . And it is made like a tank... How in the world it remained in that condition in a creek bank for how many years is unbelievable. Can't wait to get back n look for more

You let me know seriously when you are up here in Virginia and I got places you can haul "steady iron" out of all day long.. Victorian Iron Fences, farm equipment, etc etc... you name it I know where it is at. But sorry Im more into finding buttons,buckles/plates,bottles things in that nature but dont get me wrong I have hauled lot of big iron artifacts out of the woods before but you got to becareful when hauling these out of the woods.

If I could find my way out of a paper bag , it'd be worth making a special road trip... But sadly I'd end up in Alaska. I'd manage to somehow drive across an ocean... Lol

Have you searched all around that area for more fence pieces or actually in the creek. Will your detector do water?

When I get a chance I'm going back.. However it creeps me out, cause that lil rocky area and lil cave like structure was hot spot for snakes in the summer... But I'm to stubborn to not go back. Hopefully this weekend

They got websites for that sort of stuff mister!! Lol. But it's not to exciting to look at now... It's washed out... I just pray there are no more headless hawks there

You'd have to see another thread I wrote. When I went there .. There was a headless redtailed hawk in the dilapidated chicken coop and a headless hawk or owl at the exact spot I was digging out the fence. Plus an old trap with the bones of a paw in it. This was my grandparents property that was sold but had been abandoned for about 3 years now
