Surely you don't believe Bush did all that by himself. Reed, Pelosi, Barney and their cronies put the economy in a tailspin. People like that gave us Obama care without knowing what the legislation said because they didn't read it. How do you like that kind of law making? Would you pick stocks without reading the financial data? Of course not, but its ok to vote people in office who make laws that way? Well is it? Come on now. Come clean and tell us how you feel about that.

Now that Christie has won the republican primary in NJ, we'll see how he treats these bills. His acceptance speech last night was thought to have National overtones.

He should easily win reelection in NJ where he is seen as a very good governor. That said, he will cautiously approach any controversial issues until the Jersey election is behind him. He can't afford any missteps this close to an election. That he has put New Jersey's best interest ahead of his own political ambition during this past year in being chummy with President Obama leads observers to believe, with regard to gun control laws, he will do what the majority of NJ residents want, not what the majority of South Carolina residents want. IOW, the Billls get his signature.

And, for those who don't know, Christe had lap band surgery a few months ago in an effort to get his weight down. Sorry if posting that seems bigoted!

That's the catch 22. Christie could win a general election but would not likely make it through the rep primary. TH is exactly right. It's a tough game we make the repubs play. They need to play ultra conservative / extremist to win the primary. But then the have to immediately be a bi partisan team player to win the election. Tough game to play - and win.

Any party that can take George W. and make him look presidential has the potential to remake itself. (and to those who read more than i post - i like george, kinda guy I want to have a beer with, and mountain bike with, talk baseball, but as president - no so much)

The repubs have done exactly as you have said and look where it's gotten them? Five popular vote losses in the last six tries. The question after this past debacle in 2012 was are the lights off at party headquarters? They didn't see this coming? Anyone over there even have a clue? That's how bad it is.

That said, if the pundants are to be believed the repubs are going to be all about trying on new hats. One of those new hats is going to be lose the fat (sorry NJAL) known as the neo conservatives. (BTW guys, that would be you) Center up find someone with mass appeal or celeb status charisma. Or, sit on your hands until 2020.

The big effect of the tea party hasn't been anything positive that they've done for the country. it has been the drag they've put on the republican party. The country is mostly centered up. They aren't going with anyone for president who scares them with extreme views. And the tea party is all about extreme views. In that way the tea party can be viewed as a cancer on the republican party.

Chopping off the extreme is nothing new in politics. The dems did it 92 when the chopped off the extreme left. Went 5 for 6 after! The repubs need to take a page out of that play book.
