I have posted this on Todays' Finds also,
But now what is it?... I may have to take a trip to the museum to find out,but if anyone may know what these are for.. I would be happy to find out.. I'm a little reluctant to take them to the local archaeologist, If you know what I mean? Maybe someday!

Anyway, these are the pictures with a nickle in the picture for size.

The small ones are 3 CM and the large one is littler over 5 cm tall.

They all have two holes, one on the side and one in the bottom.
Of the 4, three look like they have burn makes on the bottom...see pictures. I'm thinking they had something to do with fire or making fire or used to light pipes in some way or maybe are pipes of some kind before metal pipes. They all have holes on top for a small cord.

Like I say, I found the large one 20 years ago while digging up a old coin. The other three were close together this weekend at a cave entrance. The big one was found near a castle site.
Any help by anyone that may idea or have seen something like this in other countries, please let me know...
Thanks Dave

How many of you have ever burned incense? This is what these clay items are-FOR BURNING INCENSE. These are the poor man burners. The rich had Bronse burners.
*******************
Hi pegger, true but in the years that I was in old China almost all were burned in the open or mesh type containers, even in the temples.???

This unit (Dave's) is sooo small, that one wonders if it was worth it heheh. The attachment is as near as I could come to your description. and it is much larger, also, none had a hole for lifitng, most just had wings or whatever for that purpose, so they must not have gotten very hot.

You owe me pegger, you caused me some hrs of reseach, end result, no change in my mind, they are pipes heheh

Why? becaue they were deposited in a group in a grave. No-one would deposit 3 units unless they were complete, basic psychology no?. Also one hasn't been used, so it logical to suppose that it is complete..

p.s. Excellent thinking pegger.

Yes my friend I KNOW what you are saying and they sure resemble pipes with the exception of the size of the stem holes. Back in the DAYS I would light up a large BONG ;D(SOMETIMES) It did not matter what the size of the stem was but if these are pipes there is enough space for maybe one or two hits of whatever is being smoked. Actually until more information is provide one can never be sure.
When I was in BUTAN in the Himalays collecting some precious gem stones the only pipes I saw had long thin stems.

O-HI-O Pegger, Personally I do not for one moment think that they were for Opium, but a milder form such as a native tobacco.

Soo true, if I had them in my possesion, I could quickly id the substance used in them and go from there..

As far as incense goes, I have only seen the incense here that is like a stick and stuck in the ground outside or a bowl of sand in the house at the ancestor worship alter..I have never seen it inside a device like the ones you see in stores from India.

Dave, "igerent" viewers Vote:

1 > pipe
2 > pipe
3 > pipe
4 > pipe
5 > pipe
->100 > pipe

So by unanimous decision, it is a pipe

Don kare what no stinkin Archaeologist says (Unless that it is a pipe), it IS a pipe.

Yeah but a pipe for smokin' what?? These seem to be very, very old. Maybe before tobacco got to this island. What else could they have been smokin'?

The stuff that dreams are made on sigh.

Literally hundreds of hallucinogenic drugs in this old world, they might even even had an exclusive one in those days.

Gypsy isn't peeling anything until I see solid proof of what these are..... and I want a photograph. In the mean time I have sent letters to several Universities and museums including the Smithsonian and those that specialize in Japanese and Chinese stone artifacts. I received a response from Harvard today ,the person I contacted there didn't have a clue...So I am not feeling too ignorant at this point....LOL
