MY NEW TROMMEL PROJECT FOR A FRIEND

I don't think it took much thinking to vibrate the hopper considering its been done for some time. Why do you think I mentioned it in my post 79. Dry Washers use a fan with a counter weight to vibrate the box. Hopper vibrators have been used for years in cement plants on the hoppers. Do a Google search of Hopper Vibrators or Bin Vibrators.

Exactly Viper! I've been using vibrators for years. I ain't paying that extra money just to get my tires rotated! Lol!

You put a double pulley on your engine. One for the trommel and one for the hopper. The hopper pulley you put a counterweight on then hope that it doesn't vibrate apart.

Yeah, that was GG in this thread:

In post #19 of that thread, I posted an offset weight vibration table video that shows what I was suggesting. No additional motors or wiring would be necessary running off the drum's motor.

The reason the pictures were invalid is because they come up as attachments, not a jpg so the Insert Image helper doesn't handle them

Simply wrap the url with without using the helper like this:

Ok , good you found it. I couldn't remember where exactly it was. I'll have to watch that video. If you don't have the trommel made straight you may get some vibration anyways.

Aren't you kinda screwed at that point anyway? Now you're hoofing 6 or 8" rocks outta a hole and into the hopper? If I'm doing that, I can leave them in the hopper and let the hopper spray clean them off. But I'd rather have a low mortar tub wash station or something.

You didn't go all the way to Home Depot just to take that picture for me did you? Lol!

I agree! I didn't say I would, just trying to make a point. Any large rocks I will wash off in the hopper then throw out. I wouldn't use a wash tub. Just the hopper, less work the better.

That reminds me. I was looking at those tubs just the other day. I was watching Jeff Williams on YouTube. He does prospecting how to videos and he was showing his. He has a hole cut in his and put a sink drain in it. He uses that to pan out his concentrates. Would be good if you wanted to pan while your out there or use it at home to pan.

jc,

Messed that up. Sent it to myself

I can think of an easier way to vibrate using the water pressure from a pump. Less hassles, cleaner design, etc. I am sorry you been using vibrator for years.... :tongue3: LOL...

Those tubs are great, have many uses, durable and cheap. :icon_thumright:

Help me list their uses.....

Pan into
use at end of sluice as a catch
great for recirculating tubs
can attach a rope and use like a sled to haul misc equip.
wash your mats in
float alongside your dredge to hold drinks, etc
Cover your motor during rain (motor cool and not running of course)
These are a few, please add to the list.

Go for the gold
GG~

I do what I have to to get through the day. Lol!

GG~

A sled for the kids
A trap for that pesky mouse
A cat box
A drain pan for changing your oil
A planter for flowers
A tub for soaking your feet

What? Oh your talking about gold prospecting uses?

Never mind

Lol!

Yes, I was considering them as a sled in one location. That same location is equipment free, but I figure I could get away with a classifier. So toss a shovelfull against a 2x4' classifier. Fines end up in a bucket and rocks/clods roll into the tub of water. A basket allows you to remove the large rocks after shaking them a bit in the water.

You guys can sit around all day and argue what works and what doesn't until the cows come home, here is what counts. Lots of free time to build it then fix everything that doesn't work right the first time or the second or the third or the fourth and so on. Then it comes down to how much money you have to repeat and keep fixing your csrew up's, who knows it could take years and thousands of dollars. then how long will it last when you start shoveling 3-5 yards or more rocky material through it day in and day out. I am going to be building a vibratory hopper box with a grizzly and conveyer that will go up to the hopper on my trommel, it will be fed with a mini track hoe all day long and I know from the way I built my trommel it will be able to handle it. Now, are you going to run a 5 gallon bucket or two a day or a 12 yard dump truck or more a day? it all comes down to two things in my opinion, will it stay together and how much money you have.

jog

I agree with you Jog! I'm about ready to say Look, you build your trommel your way and I'll build mine my way.

Don't say it, just do it. At least you can only blame yourself if it doesn't work. Right? At least it will be built the way you want it and thats why mine is the way it is.....

True! I build it and screw something up its my fault. Even if I use somebody's idea and I screw it up or the idea didn't work its still my fault. No one else's.

Wait a minute Jog! Are you trying to clear yourself of any wrong doing when I start screwing up my trommel built from your design? Lol!

Nope, because I screwed my up several times. I'm still changing things just to see if it works better or not a different way.

OK, when your done with all your changes fax me the revised pages so I can add them to my Jog's Trommel Tech Manual so I'll be up to date and it'll keep QA off my butt.
