Today was beautiful out, so I hit the 1830's CW property. Today was my 1st hunt of 08', and my 1st venture out into the woods now that deer season is over. I hit the woods with the Mighty Tesoro and hunted in All Metal mode. This machine LOVES relics! Most of my finds were found within about 20 yards from the edge of the woods, so I'm thinking the troops followed along the edge.
As you can see, I will be very busy cleaning up rusty relics with electrolysis this week.
I think I may have found a bayonet in two pieces. I found the sharp dagger piece within a foot of the curved piece. Could it be a bayonet? Also an odd piece that I am hoping may be a piece of a rifle?
Numerous pocket knives, buckles, buttons, and many other rusty pieces that I have no clue what they are.
The big highlight of my day though was digging up what MAY be an old COPPA!!! It would be my first Large Cent ever if it is. It needs cleaning bad as you can see.
I contacted Don our resident coin guru, and he thinks it MAY be an early year Large Cent, possibly a Draped Bust. At this point I am going to gently clean it with water and Q-tips as instructed and hope for the best. I told Don I would be happy with ANY Large Cent as I have never found one yet.
O.K., so here are my finds for today:
*My 1st ever Large Cent (hopefully) - It measures 28-29mm - Please be a draped bust. Please!
*Many asst'd relics: Possible bayonet ? , five pocket knives, spikes , plus much more.
*Two buckles.
Does anyone know if the one with all the slats in it would be CW era? Any name for this type of buckle?
*Small flower like piece with a star in the center.
CW piece?
*Old buttons.
*Asst's bullets
*"V" shaped decoration piece.
Thanks for looking Folks & have a great week,
MM
