Misc data and adventures of a Tayopa treasure hunter

here in sw CR there are hundreds of whales that people swim with, but the only thing that I hear about being found are packages of drugs

I am uninformed, is it vomit or excrement?
TT, have you ever seen a distribution map?

edit: informative article ambergris.eu

Hola TT

Whales have their own super highways depending on season. But I imagine a bit of a lottery finding some?

Kanacki
Thanks Kanaki...it certainly has to be a rare occurrence to find one, otherwise the perfume companies would not have paid that amount of money...

Hello Billa...it appears it is some kind of vomit...no I have not seen any distribution map...but I have a feeling that if a lump of ambergris does not dissolve(it appears so), then it could be washed away by ocean currents to any parts of the world...the yellow duck toys mystery has demonstrated that as the yellow duck toys still appear in waters across the world decades after that ship container splashed into the sea by accident from a cargo ship dispersing yellow duck toys in the sea (amazing yarn by itself)...

TT take a look at the article I referenced above
sperm whales only, distribution, currents, etc
I live on the beach on an inside curve where all the trash collects, I look at my feet/trash, nothing

Gidday all as for strange stories. There was an singer or opera singer from the 19th century who died in New Orleans and was buried there. A huge hurricane came and washed his coffin out to sea into the gulf of Mexico. Years later the coffin was up on beach in Newfoundland near the very town he was born. What is the odds. The sea and tides in this case the gulf stream do surprising things.

That is quite extraordinary Crow!
Here is the story about the amazing yellow rubber duck toys numbering 28,800 that accidentally spilled from a container of a cargo ship in north pacific in 1992. There movements around the globe has given valuable insights to scientists and still decades later now and then they show up in remote places in the globe. There are even folks who run websites to record new sightings of these globetrotting rubber ducks...I think some of them were caught up in a circular ocean current somewhere in the ocean waters of Japan/Russia and move round and round endlessly furnishing valuable insights to scientists...they have been sighted all over the globe and to this day they could still show up literally anywhere...

If I were involved in geography education in elementary and junior high schools, I would have used the rubber duck toys story and thier sightings as a means to explain geography lessons using globes and maps ,, that would have been very exciting to the kids...

Hola amigos

While spills of plastic ducks do have some positives they do have some negatives as they pollute the environment not only unsightly trash but the plastic breaks down into micro plastics and ends up in fish and the food chain. What people are not realizing this micro plastic has benzene in it? Thus transferring through the consumption of fish contaminated by floating micro plastics up the food chain into humans.

Benzene has been shown to cause chromosome changes in bone marrow cells in the lab. (The bone marrow is where new blood cells are made.) Such changes are commonly found in human leukemia cells.

All over the Pacific remote beaches are covered with plastic crap. A sign how destructive and wasteful society is.

Kanacki

Whats worse is growing high levels of mercury found in pelagic fish that are eaten for human consumption. New research by Northeastern University professor Richard Deth and academic colleagues in Germany suggests that long-term exposure to mercury may produce Alzheimer's-like symptoms in people. Deth also discovered a probable biological mechanism through which mercury can destroy neurological brain function in humans.

No research as far as I am aware on the possibility of increasing mercury levels in fish are contributing to higher levels of dementia in older people?

Hola Kanacki,
I wonder what % of that plastic crap could be ambergris?

I have no idea I just get overwhelmed by all the crap. Take a look at Henderson island that have never been inhabited the mess.

as a (involuntary) participant in modern society, one should increase their tolerance for injurious materials
I, for example, eat a can of mercury fortified tuna every month
my body is so toxic I need no form of birth control
