Misc data and adventures of a Tayopa treasure hunter

rEV, i consider most of those things as a sort of luxuries, but very welcome. I did carry a K-bar Marine knife for a while but soon turned to a Buck folding knife. Too much appeared threatening to the occasional lonely rancher that I met especially those with a passable daughter. I did make it a habit of removing my holster when it appeared safe to do so.It was a show of confidence, remember this was the start of the narco Traficante's and escapists from the law. In any event it is much worse now, even so they gave up on me after a month of no word. Shades of the old west. But I was in my glory, I had just before left the U,S Border Patrol and was full of confidence. mis placed confidence as is shown by a jagged scar on the side of my left arm,in back of the biceps, whether caused by law escapists or Narcontrafices.??? Your suggestions on equipment are certainly valid. and recommended
.More !

Important point , you not advertising weapons. Wealth in varied forms as simple as having grub , or something nicer than someone else can make a person a target.

I still have an old Buck 110 folder that saw lots of use , and miles. A very hard steel though. No rapid touch up if the edge was abused. And absent a variety of tools , it seems a knife can suffer abuse discovered at inopportune times.
Having multiples can preserve an edge on the more vital quality one(s). And the function reserved for serious cutting work.
The means to touch up or recover an edge is worth having. A small single cut file can be helpful , but who carries one? Or a quality stone?

Habit had me carrying a bit much one (?) hunt when I brought a particular pistol for deer. With a rifle. And an everyday carry pistol (by the mentioned habit) , and multiple knives. Coffee of course. And more.
Such would have aroused suspicion had there been prying eyes no doubt.

In a country where arms were not allowed in my possession , a large knife was worn. Not overly noticeable in the D style native/trapper style sheath riding high I'd made , but it was not beyond societal norms for where I was either.

I used a file to keep my machete sharp on my trip looking for Mayan ruins in the jungles of Yucatan / Quintana Roo. " a man is as sharp as his machete" a dull one merely shakes the vines etc showering you with stinging, chomping insects where as a sharp one, slicing one cuts cleanly. Oh yes, for trading We used 22 long rifle cartridges in the remote areas they were far better than money., There we used Trapper Nelson backpacks, served as a bed also. scoop a shallow hole, span it with the trapper nelson and you had a canvas cot.

reprint. Well it has been three days since I tried to contact my friend on the* search, for Atlantis,* still no word ?? I guess that we can put that on a back burner for now.* *What do you know about "dowsing? When I was actively looking*for lost mines, whenever I was being housed by less than very friendly Indians I would give them my Buck folding knife and tell them to hide it and I would find it by dowsing.* *I was always successful.* *That would break the ice* *(I would never try that in New Guinea - for obvious reasons, I would be grinning at you from a lodge pole.* *For me, dowsing was a feasible*way. to find something.* * * *What are your thoughts on this ?
