Misc data and adventures of a Tayopa treasure hunter

Speaking of luck, several years ago I went with my extended family on vacation to a North Carolina beach. I had already studied the tales of lost or buried treasure in that area, so I was fairly well educated on what I would be searching for while not engaging in other activities. There had been a hurricane come through the area several days prior and had left removed large amounts of sand from the beaches. They had been using front end loaders to replace the sand on the beaches for the tourists. Many areas were still pretty bare, and in these areas I concentrated my searches the following morning. Although I did find some nice silver coins and a few rings, it wasn't a stellar day. As I was making my way back to the motel where we were staying, casually swing my detector in a half hearted attempt to locate something, I looked up and noticed a guy watching me very intently. When he noticed that I saw him, he made his way toward me, not in an aggressive manner but casually. When he approached me he said "you should have been here yesterday, one fellow was walking along the beach during high tide and 3 gold dubloons rolled upon the beach." I just stood there dumbfounded not knowing what to say. I have heard reports of that actually happening before, so it is entirely possible he was telling the truth. Good Luck. rockhound

Sdcfia,

An erudite observation.

I am no miner and have no yearning for such.

What Don and I wish to consider, is the mysterious cave...

Of course, there's now all kinds of reasons that the site probably won't be mined - but for me, the question from the get-go would be, "Why wasn't the cave exploited years or decades ago?"

You have nothing to worry about. cwp, on the other hand...... :dontknow::tongue3::laughing7::laughing7::laughing 7::occasion14::coffee2::icon_thumright:

Before a single spade is sunk, any machete wielded and any senorita admired, we shall first critically examine and dissect the history and provenance of the cave.

Once it is all evidenced and verified, well, then we can begin..

This one took thirteen years to find, and only a few moments to confirm that we got there
TOO LATE!

Note the two hooded figures In the back of the vault.

Very disappointing, but it gave me and several partners, closure.
Sort of.

At least you put an end to the "what if?"

I believe, this would not be an appropriate occasion to utter the old adage 'better late than never.'

Yes, closure. This one took a full twenty years. There's only one Tree of Heaven within five miles of this location (I know because I've walked it all), and it's growing right out of the hole. Tree of Heaven - an ironic message of some sort? Then, looking straight up, another message? Ha ha. What can a guy do after twenty years? Just walk away empty-handed, of course.

I failed to give credit where it was due.

Weekender was the one that found the vault and photographed it.
It was his instincts that made that discovery.

The proof is in a pic that I took of him when he was up in the vault.

Mikel,

Thanks, But everyone needs to know that it was your years of
research and dedication that led us to the area. You knew it was
close by, I just happened to be standing in the right place to see the
crack of the vault opening on the bluff.
