That would be really interesting. Did they mention how much work would be involved?
Bev there was no indication of how much work would be involved, but I expect a lot. But this could well be a opportunity for a US based identification site, which I think you need, and the potential for it to be quite profitable with sponsorships, advertising etc. Treasure net could patent the finds site so it could not be copied, or it could be ran as a totally different Website.

:help: May I confess my ignorance here and ask what the differences are between a clasp and a buckle? :dontknow:

A clasp hooks on to a hasp (hook & loop arrangement), a buckle stands alone

So technically speaking, a sword belt plate would not be considered a buckle?

Nice find Bev! Kudos! Monty LOL! :laughing7: Creskol, I almost didn't recognize you with your new avatar. I guess it's time to change mine too since it's about 2 yrs. old. Breezie

Breezie, your avatar actually makes me smile when I see it. Just wanted to mention it. Although it's quite obvious why because you're such a pretty lady, I'm sure others smile when they see it too.

Have a great day

I over similified it for you, a quick search will show that Buckle & Clasp are inter-changeable, depending on the catergory criteria of the person/org/country that describes it.

A clasp has a hook type arrangement but might still be called a buckle. A buckle covers a multiple of sins.

Clasp (Clearing up some disambiguation)

Although any device that serves to secure two loose ends is casually called a buckle, if it consists of two separate pieces with one for a hook and the other for a loop, it should be called a clasp. Clasps became increasingly popular at the turn of the 19th century with one clear disadvantage: since each belt end was fixed to each clasp piece, the size of the belt was typically not adjustable.

Have to go to the source. Contact the webmaster of that site and see what level of headache it is. Imagine compiling all the What is It finds into a database like that? Whew...
I have actually spoken to the Webmaster of the site via email, I expressed Treasure nets interest in having a US based site like the UKFD. He said he was willing to help and would clone the UKFD for Treasure Net, as long as there was a dedicated team of people to ID finds.I passed this imformation on to a Moderater, and have yet to recieve a reply ???

I think a US finds database is definitely the next step. If TN doesnt do it, someone else will.

Myself Im bowing out soon but there are enough dedicated members here to make it work. Their hard work IDing finds will continue even without a thank you. Even if the team were to disentegrate, TN has enough IDs at this point to have a decent database because the same finds keep coming up.

Seeme like nobody at T.Net is interested, as I had no reply from my PM, to a Mod (there loss) sorry you are bowing out BigC, it won't be the same in what sit's if you do :-\

I am just spending too much time behind the computer. Ill check in from time to time.

I agree with you SS that a database is the definitely the way to go. It would insure that TN stays on top moving into the future.

Yea, I suggested it once about five years ago... that T-Net needed a database.

But then I realized someone would have to maintain it and keep it squared away, ensure it only held correctly attributed items, and I know I didn't have the time!

Big Cy - it's an addiction! I've hardly posted in two years and STILL am in the top-ten for posters, almost all in "what it it?" I understand your concern about being here too much - I used to be that guy too. I bet you'll enjoy getting your life back! :)

TN is the most interesting site on the net. Ill beat the addiction, you will see. Ill move out to the swamp somewhere where there is no electric if I have to...
