Wow wow wow! I hit the jackpot today!

I tried a new park that I've driven by a hundred times but never thought it was worth hunting. It's small, seldom used and surrounded by newer houses. I figured there couldn't be much there.

Not sure what inspired me to hunt it today but I'm sure glad I did.

I found the dimes in 2 separate stashes about 10 feet apart. The first spill had 12 dimes and the other 48 were just a few paces away. The strange thing is all of the dimes were in the top inch of dirt. I found newer coins that were buried deeper. I think it must have been a modern spill but I don't know who would be walking around with a bag full of mercury dimes.

Anyway I'll be headed back to that park very soon.

Nice find RedAmos. Just ignore the haters and the jealous types.

Definitely a 'go out and buy new underwear' kind of hunt that is for sure!:icon_thumleft:

I believe him. My BS meter did not go off at all. He could have made up a better story if he wanted to mis-lead us.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I certainly don't have any reason to make the story up.

I just got lucky. Anyone could have stumbled on this find. It didn't take any research or metal detecting skill. The mercs were just sitting there and I happened to be the first guy to swing a metal detector over the top of them.

I also find your story to be sincere and totally believable. Not that it has any bearing on your excellent find, but the post(s) doubting the authenticity of your find are breaking TNET rules anyway and should be removed. Your find is unusual, not not unheard of. I have also heard of another individual on another forum who found a partial roll of Winged Liberty dimes like yours.

Anyway, congrats on the find! :icon_thumleft:

Great find man there's always those few guys that love to hate on the next guys finds or story!! But I like to think I have a pretty good BS meter and mine didn't ring out!! So CONGRATS MAN VERY NICE!! I can't wait to get healed up from my surgery and get back at it!! I'm using my downtime to research and pick up new properties

I thought that was not allowed? And rbarnwell keep your thoughts to yourself!

Great find and I hope you find more

You have a mercury superfund site! But don't tell the EPA! Awesome!

probably in fill dirt from the new construction nearby.

You have your head on straight. I'm with you.

Either that, or "hmmm" as first post indicates.

Finder: Were they fairly neatly stacked? Was it a super tight grouping? Wide hole? Any material left behind that might have contained them? 12 and 48 is a goofy split though, if the theory of soil being moved is accurate. What's your machine?

Amazing, amazing, amazing find. ;)

As to the doubter, bah, humbug! NEVER DOUBTED THIS FIND FOR A MINUTE! And in a gentler tone to thee, doubter-person, I'll tell you that my son was astounded about a year ago when his detector discovered underground a broad "scattering" of many complete rolls of quarters! And other quarters which had eroded out of their rolls! All in an area about 20 ft. x 20 ft. In his case, the quarters were from the 1960's through 1980's. IT HAPPENS! IT'S INCREDIBLE FUN! And it adds to the fun to speculate on WHY such multiples were tossed or "lost". Andi

Great find-thanks for posting. Dime-wise that will be hard to top.

Nice find. I'd say though it was stolen from a local and they either stashed it or threw it when a cop showed up. If it was early winter problem had snow on the ground then sank in during the freeze thaw of a mild winter. But either way nice find.

Agree

Easy on rbarnwell! You have to admit it is a pretty incredible and unusaul find. I have seen some claims on here that I have called out as bs myself. I just don't think this one is.
