Wow wow wow! I hit the jackpot today!

I tried a new park that I've driven by a hundred times but never thought it was worth hunting. It's small, seldom used and surrounded by newer houses. I figured there couldn't be much there.

Not sure what inspired me to hunt it today but I'm sure glad I did.

I found the dimes in 2 separate stashes about 10 feet apart. The first spill had 12 dimes and the other 48 were just a few paces away. The strange thing is all of the dimes were in the top inch of dirt. I found newer coins that were buried deeper. I think it must have been a modern spill but I don't know who would be walking around with a bag full of mercury dimes.

Anyway I'll be headed back to that park very soon.

I'm leaning towards the theory that someone took them from a collection or stash and if caught, would probably meet their parents belt! So they stashed them in the ground for later recovery. Their loss is now your cache RedAmos. :hello:

Banner vote from me!

Good thing you were there to clean up those toxic Mercury's. LOL. Sheesh. What an awesome find.

congrats! I have found a stash like that before at a park but mine consisted of pull tabs! I like yours way better!! Awesome find:icon_thumleft:

A little fairy took them from a giant kitty cat and ditched them behind the magic pink mushrooms as she fled in horror. :laughing7:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

I am happy finding one, I bet you were dancing like Fred Astaire over them finds:hello2:

Hi RedAmos, That is a super find, congrats! As someone who worked with teens for years, I can share this. When groups of kids get together in a park to fight, sometimes it "ain't" fair. I have dealt with teens who have used "fistpacks" i.e., improvised brass knuckles amounting to nothing more than coin rolls gripped tightly in their fists, for added weight and damage potential. Some kid could have broke a "roll" of Mercs open on the nose of another combatant....! Happy Hunting, Sub

Keep looking. You will likely find the remains of the tooth fairy that crashed in that park in the middle of her rounds. Maybe the alien ship that crashed in Roswell battled with her and they took each other out.

Wow that's a pile og mercs.. Congrats on a great silver find.

How about a dime toss from the 40's 50's? Every year my little town has a carnival in our park and someone always puts on a dime toss. This year after the clean-up I let my son go with my pinpointer to clean up. He found 62 dimes from where the toss was.Granted his were all clad. Imagine if they sat for a few years???? IDK. Great silver either way. Dan

I believe him. My BS meter did not go off at all. He could have made up a better story if he wanted to mis-lead us.
