Wow wow wow! I hit the jackpot today!

I tried a new park that I've driven by a hundred times but never thought it was worth hunting. It's small, seldom used and surrounded by newer houses. I figured there couldn't be much there.

Not sure what inspired me to hunt it today but I'm sure glad I did.

I found the dimes in 2 separate stashes about 10 feet apart. The first spill had 12 dimes and the other 48 were just a few paces away. The strange thing is all of the dimes were in the top inch of dirt. I found newer coins that were buried deeper. I think it must have been a modern spill but I don't know who would be walking around with a bag full of mercury dimes.

Anyway I'll be headed back to that park very soon.

CONGRATS RedAmos!! GREAT FIND!! Bet they knocked your phones off!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

Could it have been left from a metal detecting club outing/contest?

However they got there, great find!

60 mercs in one hunt. man that has to be some sort of record. outstanding!

That is incredible! Congrats....keep hitting that place hard!

Nice find. I'd say though it was stolen from a local and they either stashed it or threw it when a cop showed up. If it was early winter problem had snow on the ground then sank in during the freeze thaw of a mild winter. But either way nice find.

Sounds like a dream hunt to me, won't happen out here ever I would bet !

An absolutely incredible story ! Whatever the circumstances , you took home a lot of treasure - what kind of date range do you have
there ?

Wow!! That's amazing, regardless of how the got there. And to think I haven't found a single Merc this season....

1925-1945. Most of them were from the 40s.

I agree. It sounds like they were tossed, not lost.
It's a once in a lifetime find!

Great Find! must have been in rolls at one time?

and to think most mercs are found after hours and hours of digging and yours are right below the surface, wow. nice find!

Here's a less sinister thought: they got tossed after someone put them in a Coinstar machine and every last one came out the bottom rejected. "Dang foreign junk coins!"
