Make a real waterproof CTX 3030 - scuba diving experience!

You guys go ahead. My experience with threadlocker says you have a good chance of ruining threads or making it very obvious you have been putting it on there. Been wrong before but I will stick with thread sealant.. On another note I had a box of Orings show up today in my mailbox, And I am doing my final few dives with my Scuba course. So soon I will be finding out how this works first hand :)

Don't be scared....try it. Let us know. Look at it like taking one for the team.:laughing7:

Mine only had 6 months left on the warranty. You can do it!

Just had my CTX back from Warranty, and I had an exchange.

I was diving at less then 10FT. with it, was detecting for at least 30 minutes and my screen went off. I quickly surfaced, get on the boat, dry it and checked if there was any leaks.

No leak on the battery pack
No Leak on the USB plug.

Back home I've unscrewed it (only the handle/screen part) and found some condensation inside the LCD screen.

I've cleaned it, re screw every thing, put back the stock crappy ring..... sent back to Minelab under warranty and 3 week after just received a brand new one.

I have counted that my CTX have passed nearly 190 hours underwater >20ft. with max @50ft.

Sent back to Minelab, they don't have noticed any changes: warranty has been preserved.

Which begs the question, where did water find an entry point in the detector?

I bought the 79x3.00 o-rings from the link provided and it seems like they are about an inch too long and don't want to fit flat in place. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I also bought the 79mm (ID) x 3.00mm (CS) N70 and found that they were about .025 Inches too long. Here's the solution:

Put the O-ring in your freezer for 30 minutes. IT WILL SHRINK! :) Quickly take it out of the freezer and "force" the O-ring into the CTX 3030 using up to four hands (two people) and a small, blunt edge plastic tool. Some of the O-ring may still be elevated. Put the battery pack on and snap it down being careful not to pinch the O-Ring. Rinse and repeat the last step until your O-ring is correctly seated. GL and HH!

That's a good question! Where did the water enter your machine?

Didin't had any information from Minelab. Before sending it I have opened it and they was water into th lcd box.. nothing more.

I think the leak has come from a bad locking of the complete usb plug at the back of the lcd screen, so it is my fault.

I'm getting ready to take my CTX 3030 into the water for the first time. Is there any other place I need to apply Loctite to other than the USB port? Thanks for this great thread and your help!

No!

When the loctite is dry, you can apply motor grease (the one you use for outboard engines, water resistante, the green one) over the gap between the endcap and the usb port. It is an extra security

For some reason, after two different orders from an o-ring supply store, I have not had much luck replacing the battery oring. I've managed to get it in and locked down but the clips are under such pressure I think they're going to break. Instead, they easily pop open. I will soon be trying the smallest recommended size (for wading) and I hope it fits better. Will maybe use some silicone grease as well. I do still use the red oring but wanted to improve things...

I bought the same ones listed above and found to thick for my comfort. Bought bunches of different thickness ozings as list in this post. Ended up scrapping the scuba idea for ctx..

Just received my 2.00 rings today. These look about right.

Just come back from a little hunt with my buddy Aquaman (CTx3030 + Excalibur + Deteknix Diver edition)

So I waterproof my CTX 3030, get to Croatia, put on my SCUBA gear, jumped into the water and COULD'NT HEAR ANYTHING from my Grey Ghost headphones! WTF? Good thing I brought my Sea Hunter MK II as a backup! Anyone else encounter this problem?

Can you see a pair of GGUW on my head when scuba diving?

Just forget them..... I use a bone phone

Understand, diving with the 3030 voids the warranty..

Did you get a chance to check out the new 2.00 o-rings for fit yet?
