Make a real waterproof CTX 3030 - scuba diving experience!

If I remember correctly it is. I will have to recheck it when it comes back from Minelab. It is on the way back but weather is slowing it down.

So leave the gasket in the USB. Take an O'ring NBR70 19x2.65 or 20x2.65 (I use the 20x2.9 but my thread is not in mint condition). Use the 5331 loctite and you go and have fun as long (and as deep) as you wish :occasion14:

I can not find Loctite 5331 in the US...

I can not find Loctite 5331 in the US...

It looks like LOCTITE has a different naming in the US.

Here is the UK PDF of the UK product spec. It's a plastic / plastic and plastic / metal sealant. I'm sur you will find the US part number on Henkel (loctite) web site

http://tds.loctite.com/tds5/docs/5331-EN.PDF

Look at the tork values as they will let you remove the cap without any issue

Just looking at the data sheet for the Loctite SI 5331 sealant --

It is a Acetoxy silicone sealant ... should be able to find something similar elsewhere as this stuff is not available.

For instance, the acetoxy silicone sealant below is similar and can probably be a good replacement. Where the 5331 compound seals to 0.3 MPa the item below is tested to 0.4MPa, a bit better. At $4.99 it's cheap too.
Amazon.com: Acetoxy Cure Silicone General Purpose Adhesive, Clear, 10.3-Ounce: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Yes, Permatex Clear Silicone is an Acetoxy silicone rubber composition with tensile strength > 1.5. Should work just fine.

If 1.5 Newtons/mm^2 is the maximum then the Acetoxy Silicone sealant I posted as a link above won't do. It has a tech sheet tensile strength of 300 psi, which is 2.07 N/mm^2 (which is more than 1.5)

The Afix 100E has a tensile strength of 0.7 N/mm^2 - which should allow removal of the USB plug without too much trouble. Probably better.

To sum the discussion up - looked at dozens of US O-ring sites (some sell in packages of 50+), these are closest to what might work and are also fairly cheap:

USB PORT REPLACEMENT O-RINGS
ID = Inside Diameter CS = Cross section (thickness)

20.0mm (ID) x 2.65mm (CS) N70 Price: $1.18 - MEDIUM
2.65mm X 20mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring Single [N2.65X020] : O-Rings - The O-Ring Store, We make getting O-Rings easy!

BATTERY CASE REPLACEMENT O-RINGS
ID = Inside Diameter CS = Cross section (thickness)

79mm (ID) x 3.00mm (CS) N70 Price: $1.82 - THICKEST FOR SCUBA (will have larger gap)

USB PORT REPLACEMENT O-RINGS -> NOT A REPLACEMENT, it's an ADD ON if your threads are still alive (I RECOMMAND TO LEAVE THE ORGINAL RUBBER IN PLACE)

Absolutely fantastic! Bravo. I love it!

I bought the 79x3.00 o-rings from the link provided and it seems like they are about an inch too long and don't want to fit flat in place. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

They fit kinda squirrely til they set in. Mine was a fight to sit still. Now they stay put.

Where is the best US source for loctite and silicone grease? I have a dive shop I am going to today anyway, might be able to find the silicone goo there [a pack of this stuff should come with the detector]

I am curious as to how necessary these mods are. I mainly wetsand/water hunt in salt water, so horror stories of leaks are a concern. I don't want to ruin a new machine. Either by not doing anything preventative at all or by trying this stuff and having it fail.

I am thinking that some stock factory failures are user error more than anything. Basically they did something wrong by either not sealing it correct or leaving grit in the gaskets. I could be wrong. That being said, I think the stock gaskets are kind of a joke and leave no room for error. Bigger gasket and silicone grease would probably have saved hundreds of people floods. It should come from factory.

Sorry if its a redundant question I missed in thread thats been covered. -Joe

I am not 100% that I am going to do any of this...as it would void the warranty.
